I have been wondering- When the Wal-Mart supercenter by IKEA opens, will they close the existing store on Harris & 29N? If they do, will the employees that work there just be relocated to the new supercenter?

When the new Supercenter opens, the old one will close.

Will they transfer the staff? More than likely, or at least get first refusal - but I wish they'd make everyone re-interview. This economic downturn is a great opportunity (for all companies) to raise the bar in terms of employee standards.

The bar for the University Walmart employees is unbelievably low.

That store is plague by poor staff as well as poor customers. The few times I have HAD to go there the place looks like it has been ransacked and everyone I cross is rude. I might give the new place a chance but I don't have high hopes.

It is, isn't it! That's my concern. As much as I am looking forward to what will be my closest supercenter (by more than 13 miles), I will avoid it if they just shift the existing staff there.

You make a good point. Never thought of the economic crisis in these terms.

Between the clientele and the employees, that whole place needs to be imploded in the middle of the day without warning. The Supercenter closest to me in Concord on 29, that one I like. I'm not a fan of Walmarts but I don't mind that one. That one in University...there's just never a good reason to go. I've been in there less than a handful of times and I walk out shaking my head wondering why I even bothered.

Did they ever fix the parking lot lights? Every time I had to go there at night the lights in the parking lot were always off and it was an eerie feeling.

BTW, this replacement Supercenter will open in June.
Two other Supercenters will also open this summer - one at Concord Mills and the other in Locust, NC

Yeah, been there.....know what you mean. It's as if the standard bar was set at...........Have pulse ..........Walk upright (most of the time) and no heroin out on the sales floor.

I think that covers it.
