I'm interested in joining a gym but I haven't visited centers yet. I've heard the Harris YMCA is great but I really don't want to spend $50+ a month. Bally seems to be reasonably priced but are there others? Does anyone have gym recommendations for that part of town? Or recommendations of places to NOT go? Any help is much appreciated...thanks!
Bally's is a terrible deal, at least the last time I joined. If you don't take a 3 year deal and pay up front you pay a higher rate per month and I believe there was a joining fee. Plus you had to sign a contract.

I second this, the gym is good but the contract is no good
Energy Sports and Fitness on Sardis. You could do month to month (don't let them tell you no). Otherwise their membership is one year. Great gym facility that has childcare, tanning beds and a giant movie room.

Be very careful getting a membership with Bally's. At least here on the west coast Bally's is in dire financial shape, and I imagine will have to be taken over by another gym. Probably 24 hour fitness or LA Fitness out here. So I would not spend alot of money on that gym franchise at this time. Better go with a locally owned gym if you still have any there. All the gyms out here are the big chain ones.
