Default Union county/South Charlotte church suggestions

Hello! I'm here! Moved into our house in Lawson and very happy! So now to more questions for you all.

Husband and I live in Waxhaw, two boys ages 5 and 2, and church shopping. We are catholic but for many reasons have really been wanting to open up to church communities that more closely reflect our beliefs.

I'd say we are socially liberal (gay marriage fine, social justice important) and also theologically liberal (Jesus is son of god and we follow his teachings, but bible isn't the inerrant word of god, questioning is good)

We'd like a great community to belong to, with ministries for children and adults, opportunities for fun as well as community service. I've done quite a bit of internet searching and I know there are churches that would likely suit us, but I'm having trouble finding any that are within a 15 minute or so drive of Waxhaw. Not to be lazy, We could make a half hour drive uptown every sunday, but like I said we really want to be part of the community, so having to do that a couple of times a week for activities might become difficult. Also, we'd hope that perhaps some church members would also maybe live not too far away!

Anyway, just want any input. Thanks!

colleen

Colleen, you will most likely have a bit of a problem finding a "socially liberal" church in southern Mecklenburg or within 15 minutes of Waxhaw. Wish I could think of one to recommend to you, but I just can't. There are some truly great churches on that end of things, but one fine with gay marriage? Not that I can think of. If you decide you could worship with people a little bit more conservative than that you'd have some good choices of churches with lots going on for families.

My wife and I attend services at Our Lady of Lourdes in Monroe (On the corner of Franklin & Deese) and we love it. We had attended at St. Matthews on Ballantyne Commons Pkwy., but did not feel comfortable there - it is very large, and seemed a bit impersonal to us. I think if you were to attend services at OLL, you may find what you are looking for. Good Luck!

St. Margarets Episcopal Chruch on Rea Rd just off Providence. By far the most liberal church in the area, and very close to you.
