Default RELOCATING TO CHARLOTTE,28269 area

Hello:

Am planning to relocate to the around Haybridge Rd area , in zipcode 28269. My primary concern is safety and security. Which elementary school do you think my child would go to.. I read that Charlotte as a whole has a high crime rate above the national average. Could you pls provide me with some information or details of this area.

Pls advise..

Thank you.

That is generally not thought to be the safest part of town. If you search for threads on "North Charlotte", you'll find plenty of opinions. This area is referred to as "south of Harris Blvd". Not sure about the schools.

Do you have to move to this area? Simply moving 1 or 2 miles north, across Harris would improve the safety issue.

Charlotte is a very "segmented" city, so those crime statistics aren't always indicative of a particular area.

That said, I see that the area you are looking at is south of WT Harris Blvd. I don't know much about this particular part of N. Charlotte, but conventional wisdom has been that the further south of Harris you get, the more cautious you need to be. That being said, I have a co-worker who lives near Derita & Nevin Rd and she loves the area.

YMMV.

I live across Hubbard Rd. from there. The area is as safe as any other in the city (which is obviously safe enough for me to buy a house in!). I don't see property values skyrocketing anytime soon (all economic issues aside) due to an incorrect perception of the neighborhood being on the wrong side of WT Harris, but it will undoubtedly stay healthy and modest in price...just what a family needs for their home. It's why my wife and I bought in the area and the nearly one year we've spent here has proved worth our while. You get a lot of bang for your buck, in my opinion. The area is very convenient for shopping, restaurants, and commute. To be fair to those who think the area is not so great, I do consider the area to be the outer edge of University City and what I'd call and "acceptable" area to live.

As far as schools, I don't know. Our first isn't even born yet...so it's not been a priority on my mind. As I understand it, there aren't any problem schools in the area, so I have no worries. In fact, Mallard Creek HS is one of the newest school's in Mecklenburg County (if that means anything to you).

We live in Highland Creek, which is in 28269. We love living here, and wouldnt move for anything. My Daughter goes to HC Elementary. Not sure where the boundaries are, and not sure which part of 28269 you are looking at. Let us know which community for more accurate reponses.

I am a Charlottean, As some one said there is lake norman and Lake wylie both are nice and lake wylie which is just across the state line in Sc is the closes to South Charlotte. The area such as Birkedale and Baylantine are both very nice places. Also a complex just opened in downtown with an upscale movie theater where u can eat and watch a movie and clubs are part of this , I can't think of the name right now. Also this is where the Blumenthal theater is and other venues for plays and things like that. I have to go right now but I will reply again.

Another person in 28269. The zip spans both sides of Harris Blvd. Do a search for my posts or metalsteve(see above). I'm on his side of Harris. I love my neighborhood!

I moved from my old place, but still loved by area. 5 min from CIC. The husband could come for lunch. Close to the highway. Loved it!
