I spent several hours yesterday trying to get reservations at a nice restaurant for Valentines Day. Finally got reservations at Del Friscos after someone else had cancelled. Glad to see business is still good for special occasions. Anyone else have trouble booking at last minute? Normally I don't wait to last minute, but I didn't know about work schedule earlier.

I have dinner all prepped up here. Hubby is taking care of snacks and a picnic lunch. Dinner is escargot, chicken cordon bleu, mashed potatoes and broccoli with some amazing romano cheese. Homemade irish creme panna cotta for dessert. All under $20 for the two of us.

If there's one thing I learned as a cook is that on holidays, the food will never be quite as good when you go out. (unless it's a special menu, in which case it's often amazing) We almost went out, but now I"m glad..if everywhere is booked, braving the crowds might be awful.

Though when you think about it, it makes sense. You think women are going to let men get away with that whole "it's a recession" line?

Dinner at your place sounds better than most menus. I offered to fix a candle light dinner for my wife, but she is quite familiar with my limited cooking skills lol. Hope you have a great Valentine's Day.

We had a hard time finding anywhere to go even tonight. Seems a lot of people are celebrating today (Friday).

We actually booked a VD dinner reservation for last night (Friday) at Bentley's - but a last minute business trip for my better half forced us to cancel - even though we knew we'd have to re-book for next week, I was told when I called to cancel that there were no other times available last night.

Hubby made reservations last week through Open Table... then luckily checked, found out they were for the wrong day b/c the site was messed up or confusing or something.

Tried again yesterday, the steak house we were going to go to was full, but we got reservations for Lava Bistro near the university. Don't know if it's a good place or not, but looks good and it'll be fun to go out!

I am preparing our dinner here this evening. DH did his part, tho. He showed up with two dozen (yes, TWO!!!) red roses yesterday, to my utter amazement.

So the table is set w/ those beautiful roses in the middle. Now to head downstairs to put the final touches on the menu . . . potatoes au gratin, filet mignon, spring salad, and baked apple tarts for dessert. Chill some wine . . .

SPIDERBEAR: Hubby loves Escargot - so I won't be telling him what you are fixing! Sounds lovely!

Hope everyone has a relaxing evening!
