I don't have an attitude.
And I do NOT want higher taxes either. I was just saying that people want something for nothing. That doesn't make sense.
If taxes are not increased, how is CMPD suppose to hire & pay for more police officers? Crime is not getting any better.

Hmmm...okay so you would rather get mugged, kidnapped, or shot instead of paying a few extra dollars every paycheck so that we could have safer streets? The taxes aren't just the problem. It's the overall attitude of locals around here who claim how "safe" Charlotte is. A lot of cities do not have violent crime like this.
Also, we wouldn't be doing ourselves any justice if Mackey became/becomes sherriff. He is a criminal himself. Doesn't give me high hopes that our money would go where it was needed.

I live in SE Florida. Mind you MIami/Dade has so much crime in areas, and is pretty known for it, but I don't live near that County. Where I live, crime is not really an issue. There are no home invasions in my town, or cars being stolen, or anything like that. I have told people here that we are planning on relocating to the Charlotte area, and I hear (Yes! Even in Florida) "Why would you move there? THere is so much crime there?" Then my husband says to me, "Don't listen to what everyone says, if Charlotte was SO bad, then why are so many people moving there!" Then I do research on the internet and read about crime on the rise there, yada yada yada. I have a friend who recently moved there from the Philadelphia area. I asked her what her opinion was. She said, "Sure there's crime, but coming from Philadelphia, it is way less in Charlotte." She lives in Huntersville. She said, "I think the main crime here is your car being stolen." Well, I'm not used to my car being stolen (it was stolen when I lived in NY many moons ago - I'm from NYC). I'm not used to home invasions. Etc.
I'm getting very confused, and driving my husband crazy......one day we're moving there, one day we're not.
It looks so beautiful there, and I want to get there, but I'm so confused.
Help me out here! What's the truth?
Thanks.

Yes Charlotte has crime. What city doesn't. Much less that Miami-Dade.
Come to Charlotte and you will not regret it. So many Floridians are wanting to leave Florida due to so many reasons. Charlotte is booming in population That should tell you something. 2hrs to the beautiful mountains and 3 1/2 hrs to the beach (bet you are not use to that long of a drive to the beach).
Huntersville is GREAT and is one of the better suburbs by far!
GOOD LUCK!

Maybe I came across wrong. Do I want higher taxes NO. Am I willing to pay higher taxes YES!
I was talking about people in general. Not me. People want something for nothing. I was not raised that way. I was taught you get what you pay for!
I live directly across the street from a CMPD sub-station and feel VERY VERY safe and I live Uptown. Compare the crime statisticts Uptown (28202 ZIP) and it is probably one of the safest areas. Not only do we have police riding around in cars, but also on bikes and foot patrol Uptown so I feel 3 times more protected.

Okay well all that is a bit different. My husband used to work uptown near the police station and it is different up there. There is definetely a police presence. Over here in the Steele Creek Area it is a different story. Once labeled the "safe" part of Charlotte, that too has changed. I can say that I almost never see police patrolling areas or having any kind of presence for that matter. If a call is made average response time is like 30 minutes, and that's apparently if they show up at all these days.

I don't mind the 3 hour drive to the beach. I don't like the beach (yea, I know, pretty weird to live in Florida and NOT like the beach - LOL). I'm looking for real trees (not Palm) and greenery, suburbs, and streets with side walks.
Charlotte looks like that to me.
