I trust my neighbors so there is no worry there but the thought of that getting in wrong hands made me tear them up as I put them in the can.
I remember a news report awhile back that organize criminals would pay bums to sift thru trash rolled out to the street.
Good Point - I generally shred everything. I filled out some form online that would stop CC companies from sending me all those stupid offers and Citibank still keeps sending out those letters that contain those checks to transfer balances from other CC companies. They are a pain. I don't need any more credit. Even months when I charged $15,000 on a card it got paid at the end of the month! Why do they still bother me? They're never going to get a cent of interest out of me and continue to send me more crap that I have to shred! It's a never-ending battle that wastes their paper and postage and just by sending me all this stuff, they expose me to credit fraud if the mail falls into the wrong hands.

Since I'm home all day, on garbage day, I'll pick up some of the trash that has blown out of my neighbors cans and get rid of it. You have to help all those poor souls that still have to earn a living!

A similar occurrence happened in the Glenridge neighborhood, which is adjacent to Heritage Green and Oakhurst communities, up here in Cornelius. Although it was mortgage fraud that lead to a majority of the homes foreclosing and curb appeal is nappy on some homes, crime hasn't become a serious issue. Of course this neighborhood is much smaller than your Steele Creek area, but it may be worth researching with how this problem was handled.

Here is a link regarding the mortgage fraud:

All of your posts have been spot-on and very well written. I feel for anyone experiencing these issues in Steele Creek but our concerned poster in that area certainly did start out by disparaging all of Charlotte in a flurry of emotion-- I am certainly glad we have gotten that straightened out and clarified in this thread-- FINALLY.

Steele Creek's crime has been the subject of other threads on this board. I, like carolina_guy, would never, ever move there. I considered it, with the fantastic new homes in my range and the promise of a thriving area-- yet, the thugs in the surrounding areas saw this growth as a magnet for theft and robbery, so I said no thanks.

I guess this thread can serve as a cautionary tale for prospective buyers in that area and a wake-up call to the city to concentrate on that area.

I did not start out by disparging all of Charlotte in a flurry of emotion. I was asked what I thought about Charlotte and its crime. Obviously I have not been to every part of Charlotte and I am soooooooooooo sick of people getting so defensive about their "part" of Charlotte if the crime is not as bad there. Are there pockets of crime in Charlotte, yes, is it everywhere, I suppose it is not. Then again I can only surmise that since I again have not been to every single part of Charlotte. However, I do see the CMPD site and I can tell you from that the crime is not just condensed to the Steele Creek area and is widespread. Ofcourse, I can only voice my experiences in my part of Charlotte, but I do see a bigger picture then the rest of you that are so narrow minded just because you have not seen these things in your "part" of Charlotte. Case and point...

But many things on their site may be minor or whatever...CALL CMPD and talk to them about exactly what is going on instead of reading it on their calls for service. ...death investigation could be an old person died... you just don't know...here's an idea...do some type of public service if you want to make a difference...try going on a ride along and SEEING what crap police deal with day in and day out, you might see things in a whole new light. All you have to do is call and request one.

Awww... and we were getting along so nicely last night

These kinds of comments of yours are not really helpful nkjaws:
"I do see a bigger picture then the rest of you that are so narrow minded just because you have not seen these things in your "part" of Charlotte."

The only narrow-minded people I see on this forum are the ones who continue to insist that some of us are in denial and/or that crime is EVERYWHERE (when it really isn't).

And just fyi, the 3 calls for police service this morning that you just referenced all occured either in Steele Creek or the University area - both of which everyone here have acknowledged are having problems with a spike in crime while the rest of the city's crime numbers are going down.

Funny that you pick one thing and dispute it as a death investigation. YOu are right, it absolutely may be an old person. However, you cannot dispute car theft, weapons at school, break ins, gun shots, etc. NO, I will not see CRIME in a different light, sorry try again. I know that being a police officer here is tough, and they deal with a lot of crap. that isn't the issue. Have I ever said, "I could do it better?" There are serious crime problems in some areas of Charlotte, mine especially and that is the point of this whole thread.

We have been experiancing an increase in crime in the Weddinton area (house break ins, car break ins, car theft, etc) (different from the normal teenage pain in the #@! stuff).

Hey, we agree, on the responsibility part

I might rephrase your first sentence to read "crime can happen anywhere guys".

NKJaws: I fully understand your concerns. Yes, there are criminal acts and calls for service going on all over the CLT metro area all day long.

However, I gotta tell you . . . I lived at one point in a town of less than 25,000 and one of my neighbors had this hobby . . . she kept a police band radio going all day and nite. She was rather reclusive (and only in her 30s!!!!) but she loved that police radio. Even in our small town, there was constant chatter on the band. Suspicious person. Concealed weapon. Car theft. Breaking/entering. Larceny.

Now if in a small burg of less than 25,000 there are reports all day and nite going on . . . why wouldn't there be even more in a metro the size of Charlotte?

I suspect if we could get into the police logs of similar sized cities - w/ demographics close to Charlotte's - we would find logs that look very similar to the one you posted. I personally know of no city that has just "one area" where crime is confined.

Sadly, some demographics can be a close predictor of the crime in any given area. I think we have discussed that here. Other posters have said - drugs, gangs, low income, proximity to interstates/highways, etc - all are factors wh/ affect criminal activity.

Charlotte has crime! We all agree. And further, there are many of us who have posted here who are truly concerned about that section of Steele Creek that has been discussed here.

But to imply that CLT's crime is rampant and worse than other cities w/ similar demographics . . . I don't think that is a fair and accurate assessment.
