Since I'm home all day, on garbage day, I'll pick up some of the trash that has blown out of my neighbors cans and get rid of it. You have to help all those poor souls that still have to earn a living! ![]() Last edited by TheEmissary; 01-03-2008 at 12:04 AM. Reason: gr |

Steele Creek's crime has been the subject of other threads on this board. I, like carolina_guy, would never, ever move there. I considered it, with the fantastic new homes in my range and the promise of a thriving area-- yet, the thugs in the surrounding areas saw this growth as a magnet for theft and robbery, so I said no thanks. I guess this thread can serve as a cautionary tale for prospective buyers in that area and a wake-up call to the city to concentrate on that area. |

But many things on their site may be minor or whatever...CALL CMPD and talk to them about exactly what is going on instead of reading it on their calls for service. ...death investigation could be an old person died... you just don't know...here's an idea...do some type of public service if you want to make a difference...try going on a ride along and SEEING what crap police deal with day in and day out, you might see things in a whole new light. All you have to do is call and request one.

Awww... and we were getting along so nicely last night ![]() These kinds of comments of yours are not really helpful nkjaws: "I do see a bigger picture then the rest of you that are so narrow minded just because you have not seen these things in your "part" of Charlotte." The only narrow-minded people I see on this forum are the ones who continue to insist that some of us are in denial and/or that crime is EVERYWHERE (when it really isn't). And just fyi, the 3 calls for police service this morning that you just referenced all occured either in Steele Creek or the University area - both of which everyone here have acknowledged are having problems with a spike in crime while the rest of the city's crime numbers are going down. |

We have been experiancing an increase in crime in the Weddinton area (house break ins, car break ins, car theft, etc) (different from the normal teenage pain in the #@! stuff).

However, I gotta tell you . . . I lived at one point in a town of less than 25,000 and one of my neighbors had this hobby . . . she kept a police band radio going all day and nite. She was rather reclusive (and only in her 30s!!!!) but she loved that police radio. Even in our small town, there was constant chatter on the band. Suspicious person. Concealed weapon. Car theft. Breaking/entering. Larceny. Now if in a small burg of less than 25,000 there are reports all day and nite going on . . . why wouldn't there be even more in a metro the size of Charlotte? I suspect if we could get into the police logs of similar sized cities - w/ demographics close to Charlotte's - we would find logs that look very similar to the one you posted. I personally know of no city that has just "one area" where crime is confined. Sadly, some demographics can be a close predictor of the crime in any given area. I think we have discussed that here. Other posters have said - drugs, gangs, low income, proximity to interstates/highways, etc - all are factors wh/ affect criminal activity. Charlotte has crime! We all agree. And further, there are many of us who have posted here who are truly concerned about that section of Steele Creek that has been discussed here. But to imply that CLT's crime is rampant and worse than other cities w/ similar demographics . . . I don't think that is a fair and accurate assessment.
