Oh that's right my mistake, you're moving back to the NE area of the US right? I thought about going home too. I still may after I retire. Depends on how SC works out for me.

Yep...not big at all on the Mecklenburg/Cabarrus area or the direction it's going in. So it's back home to New Jersey for me.

I am in the restaurant business. In two years here at our locations,
we have had about 16 robberies. Keep in mind that some of our locations
are in nicer areas of town. Everything from strong armed robberies
to breakins at night and in a couple of instances taking the whole safe.
my wife had her purse taken at Northlake mall. We are moving because
we never feel safe. We are out of here and let the thugs run wild.
the Police rarely catch anybody.
I think u just got bad luck brova, I've lived in Durham, NC and Washington, DC for years and never been a victim of 1 crime, and the crime in those 2 places are much worst than Charlotte.

Smile Just an Opinion....

I was born & raised in SC but I went to college in NC, now I plan on relocating to Alexandria, VA. For the people who reside in Charlotte & want to relocate to SC you will see a big difference in the amount of crime!! I lived in Charleston & Columbia, & I can say that compared to Charlotte they are VERY safe.

There are "bad" areas in both cities, in Charleston: certain parts of King Street, certain parts of Dorchester Road, & half of the North Charleston Area, mainly that's about it. I was raised West of the Ashey which is the "suburban/urban" part of Charleston but overall, Charleston is a beautiful city. If you are looking for the "family oriented" sections they're mostly James Island, Mount Pleasant, & Summerville.

In Columbia: certain parts of Broad River Road, Two Notch (especially around Columbia Mall), certain areas surrounding Benedict College & Columbia College. Besides those areas, everything is fairly safe. The Irmo area is in my opinion the safest part of Columbia but the traffic is bad. It's not worse than Charlotte traffic but its bad.

I hope this information was helpful.......

Great Point ncgirl!!

If you look at the crime index for charleston here on city data crime is double the national average
http://www.city-data.com/city/Charle...-Carolina.html

it not exactly of great desire for a population as small as that.

Same for columbia
http://www.city-data.com/city/Columb...-Carolina.html

I have a bag of 10 apples and bag that has 50 apples which one is more likely to have a chance to have more bad apples.

Your point is??? I never said that crime doesn't exist!! In the 23 years I resided in SC I have never had a problem especially not the problems expressed in this thread!! Every city has its bad parts, but the bad parts in Charleston & Columbia compared to Charlotte is nothing!!

um since you didnt get the analogy here let me simplify it for you. I have a bag of 10 apples (this is Charleston, Columbia) and bag that has 50 apples (this is Charlotte) which one is more likely to have a chance to have more bad apples. However L.A. or Chicago has 100 apples in the bag so they have more chance for more bad apples.

Actually, Charlotte's violent crime and murder rates are higher per capita than LA or Chicago. That's comparing apples to apples.
