Default More info please.

My wife and I spent a week in Raleigh last month, liked it quite a bit. We are still researching though.

I ran a "generic" job search for construction, and I.T. (I do both) work in the following areas: Kannapolis, Raleigh, Knoxville TN and Charlotte. Using everything within 30 mi as a criteria, the results came back with a whole lot more opportunities around within 30 miles of Kannapolis (also high for Charlotte). It also seems that new homes in new communities are less in this area, with more choices for what we want.

Soooooooooooooo..............Can I get some input as to the area around Charlotte, Kannapolis, that whole part of the state? What's safe, clean etc? Any and all information would be appreciated. That would also include northern areas of SC.

Thanx

There is a huge amount of construction going on in the Charlotte area right now. What exactly are you looking for? Are you wanting to live IN Charlotte or just outside it? Do you have kids in school? What size town are you looking for?
Matthews is a nice town- it is south of Charlotte. There is alot of growth in Union county as well right now.

Have you posted on the NC board too? It gets more hits than this one and you would probably get more replies.

Default More details

I am a retired civil service type from California, now living in FLA. I am looking for areas where construction of heavy because I do construction inspections, mostly on utilities, and land prep, like for houses etc. Ideally, I'd like to land a job with a homebuilder, managing one of their new communities they are building.

Don't necessarily to live IN any big town, but that depends on the community and the surrounding area (we are looking for a new house in a community, not necessarily built yet). After watching the news, weather and researching a lot of info in the internet, we are interested in the areas north of Charlotte, and/or west of RDU. One of the areas we really liked when we where there last May was in Mebane (a little east of Burlington). Another was Garner, south of Raleigh, but that seems a little too far east. I'm also trying to dodge most of the hurricanes, having had more than enough.

Haven't been to the Charlotte area yet, but are interested around the northern part, using Kannapolis as a central focal point.

A job search for "construction" within 30 mi of Kannapolis came back with a whole lot of positions.

Not sure how to say this and still be politically correct, so I'll just blurt it out.
My wife are caucasian, both over 50, me closer to 60 (wow! 60. I hadn't really thougt of it like that). Kids are grown, so that is not really an issue.

Anyhow, any and all info is appreciated.
