This was just on the local and national news (MSNBC) - they showed the helicopter shots of the long lines that were wrapped around the hotel and back through the car-park.

I just saw that too. They said on the news if you are not already in line don't bother going you won't get in. Good to note for Thursday the 19th, get in line early!

Default CMS Job Fair Cancelled

DISTRICT NEWS

CMS Job Fair cancelled; transfer fair for new schools only

This time of year, we would normally begin the busy staffing period in preparation for the coming school year. This year, CMS is faced with unfamiliar challenges as we prepare to make reductions to current staffing levels.

In order to maintain as much stability in our schools as possible, we will have a transfer fair for new schools only.

The annual job fair, which was scheduled to be held at the Charlotte Convention Center on April 18, has been canceled, as have all out-of-town and overnight recruitment trips. We will participate in local recruitment efforts as we continue to strengthen relationships with the surrounding colleges and universities.

My son just applied online rather than deal with the crowds. I mean, how can the recruiters remember 1500 people (or more) anyway?

I know someone who went to the job fair today. He said he stood in line for 2 1/2 hours just to get in and by the time he got in it was around 11:30 and most of the companies were already packing up because they had more than enough applications/resumes to sift through.

The amount of people looking for jobs frightens and saddens me. And where are new college grads going to find jobs with all this competition??
