Yep. It would be a bad thing for the greedy insurance agents and the doctors and hospitals that thrive on getting you to pay $10.00 for a Tylenol tablet (and another $5.00 for the water to drink it with!). The greed in the health care industry is only matched by the greed in the financial industry. So, now, I have the freedom to die without medical care because I cannot afford it. Great. That is something worth ..uh...living for???
I know Norway well. My grandmother was born/raised there. It is my heritage. No, it is not a perfect place...nowhere is. But, at least you don't have to worry about whether or not you will have to mortgage your house (or sell it in a lot of cases) to pay for your mother's health care.
And, the taxes in England, Brian, are no worse than the taxes here. The difference between the two are that we have a lot of small taxes...add them up and they equal (or exceed, in some cases) the V.A.T. tax levied there. My friend that lives there is permantly disabled. He has had his house remodeled to accommodate his disability...including an elevator installed so that he could go upstairs to bed since he cannot walk up the stairs... (for free), all taxes & mortgages paid in addition to his continuing and extensive health care and medicinal costs. In addition to all of that, his wife receives a stipend to stay at home from work to care for him and his son receives and additional stipend to go to University (where the tuition is free, by the way) since his father is disabled. The only thing that they are supposed to pay for is the dorm (residence) which, as I understand it, is free for them since Dad is disabled. Add to that is the monthly stipend to go where ever they wish to have any kind of additional health care or additional hospitalization done as necessary.
Sorry. There are no programs here that equal that....or, come close. And, theirs is a very free, democratic society.
