Can you have a home built in south Charlotte area for $250K ......... with about two acres ..... 2500 sq feet????? Has anyone built a home in the Charlotte area for that amount?
And if that is possible, where do you begin to find the builder?
Any help would be appreciated!

The answer is "not very likely". You can buy a home in that square footage range in that price range, but on a tiny lot - you cannot get acreage in south Charlotte for under the million mark anymore I'm afraid.

You'd be hard pressed to find two acres to build on in South Charlotte at any price. If you go into Union County or Lancaster or York County maybe. Even there the price for two acres and a 2500 sq ft house would be probably greater than $500k.

i'd like to buy a half acre or an acre and build my own home. i'm an architect, living in northern california. i've cashed out on my home (also my own design) and I'm looking to build another in the charlotte area (my wife is an executive with bofa and has moved there already...living in myers park right now). does anyone know of an area where this might be possible, or does anyone know of zoning restrictions? the kind of home we'd build would be in the moden cubist vein, so it would be nice to be around other similar homes so as to belong somewhere.

any ideas would be appreciated.

our budget is about $500K. we want to save the rest for the kids' college!
