Charlotte home prices fall harder | CharlotteObserver.com (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/597/story/557963.html - broken link)

remember, numbers do not include seller concessions which make the numbers look better than they are.

Sunshiners used to defend by saying we were at the top of the 20 city list.

We are dropping, now #5 in % decrease and getting worse.

Again, numbers will not improve (and actually get worse) for two reasons. Sales are still 30-50% down YOY, and transplant markets continue to sag. Until the major markets show long term upswings, we will continue to be in the toilet.

couldn't you squeeze this in one of your other doom and gloom threads? Is this single news article really thread-worthy? Is this even news to anyone with half a brain?

Give it a rest coupon... we know your outlook. When the housing markets are completely and utterly collapsed we be sure to give you all the credit you deserve for trumpeting every piece of bad real-estate news you read like the gospel, mmkay?

Jack, why do you insist on kicking a dog when it's already down?

Did we REALLY need one more thread like this?

Coupon, you are exactly right about the values dropping. I have been beating that drum since the fall and most people act like I am an idiot, too. Working in the mortgage field, I see it first hand. It isn't pretty.

I recently read an article in Money magazine that said that our "salvation" in this (as in preserving your asset for retirement, depending upon how old you are) is to work diligently to pay off your mortgage. That way, when you retire, it really will not matter what the value is...you will still have some kind of equity that could be tapped if necessary.

Obviously, if you are not working, this is a difficult thing to do. But, that is the lesson for the future. If you have a zero mortgage, then, at least you would have a roof over your head if you were unemployed!
