Can anyone recommend a hotel in the Charlotte area?
One that's a chain, not too expensive (I don't need frills like a pool/spa but I do want to be safe), and clean.
I have to make reservations soon and want to be careful as to where I stay, if possible.
Thanks!

Which part of Charlotte? We stayed at Microtel in Cornelius.......NOT RECOMMENDED. Cheap but YUK...
If you are looking to stay north Hawthorne Suites in Huntersville exit 25 has all you need even dinner included during the week and hot breakfast. Not that expensive. That's all I know is that area. Maybe someone has another suggestion.

We stayed at the Ramanda Inn across from Carowinds when we there. It was nice. Just don't let them put you on the eighth floor if you have a wilder than heck 4 year old like we did in 1998. Those rooms have balconies as well. Talk like an experience in real living. I thought I would have a heart attack before I got Brianna out of there. But the hotel itself was very nice and it wasn't bad on the price either. Like I said if you have children try to get as close to the ground as you can or take a straight jacket with you if they are a little on the hyperactive side.

Funny about Microtel! I was told I should try them for their reasonable rates. Good thing you posted that!
I'm going to check out Hawthorne Suites in Huntersville and see what the rates are going to be. Thanks!

Bethany, what town would this Ramada Inn be in (I'm unfamiliar with Carowinds)? Thanks!
I won't have a small child to worry about, but I don't think I'd want to be on the eighth floor either (I don't like heights!)

Sounds good but I am unable to find Ballantyne, NC exactly on a map (tried Mapquest, Google, no luck). What city is it near or do you have a zipcode? Thanks!

I'm not sure if they are all like that but the one in Lake Norman was kind of flea bagish. They give you a continental breakfast though.

I stayed for a week at the Microtel in Matthews. It was fine. It was $39/night. It's on Matthews-Mint Hill Road and was near many shopping areas and a starbucks- was a good home base for exploration in S. Charlotte. It is a "modest" so you are going to get "what you get" for $39/night. I just wanted to be/feel safe, have internet access and cable TV in the room. n They do have a contintental breakfast in the morning though. I did see someone get arrested there though one night- some young couple with some dispute and the young lady called the cops on him, and she ended up in cuffs!
Oh avoid the Knights Inn, that popped on a few searches for a "cheap spot" I drove by it once and it's not in a nice area...

Yeah I saw your previous post on Microtel that's why I gave it a try. You are exactly right it's a 39.00 hotel. I guess I expected just a little more. I shouldn't have called it a fleabag. It was clean but it did smell funny though.
