You have to be kidding, SNOW is following me wherever I go, moving from Cleveland to Charlotte this June
:mad :I planned to relocate to Charlotte to get rid of Cleveland horrible snow, and guess what from what I see in the pictures in March, it is not much better there now, actually at the current moment we don't have any snow at all in Cleveland, but I heard that more than 6 inches high is the snowfall this March 2nd,,,
My interviewer's comment still echoes in my ears, when I asked about the snow she answered "Charlotte has no snow honey!!", well apparently it does and big time, this way you have almost 1/2 of the snow fall we got here in Cleveland so far for this year or what,,,,, So help me God, because I signed the contract and going to start June !!
Besides I heard that houses prices are going up, which is rediculous and against all the common sense!! because how come you would have prices going up when everybody else is going dow, even in the best places!!
Just wondering, and I can still say that I am not unhappy with the move, but apparently, it is not gonna be as I thought
!!

Well...this area always gets a *good* snow every few years. The years in between our blizzards consist of 10-15 flakes. LOL!
And we also see some pretty nasty ice storms here every few years.
If you are looking for snow/ice free the SE isn't the place.
Good luck where ever you land.

One thing is for sure: Charlotte DOES have a winter, no matter how mild it is, they do have a winter! It can/does get cold, can/does get icy and CAN/DOES get "white"! One nice thing about the snow, it melts awfully fast there! Charlotte is NOT the "no snow" areas of So Calif and is NOT Florida! We knew that the Charlotte area gets a winter, but, coming from the Denver, CO metro area, we THOUGHT we could handle the little amount of possible snow the area can get........found out, NOPE! Moved to Florida in January. Charlotte and North Carolina is a beautiful city/State, but just not for us.
Good Luck!

I appreciate your post, but more details are required, and what about the summer if you compare to San Antonio or Houston, because those were places I was thinking about, for me I know that it is a trade off, if you get very nice winters , definitely at the very cost of humid bad summer right,,,, I lived in Seattle for a few months, and it gets very rainy all the time, yet clean and nice place to live in,,,, but a little expensive and too open minded to my taste, I come from what is like Southern culture here in US, but back in my Country Egypt,,,, not very open minded, haahahah
Do you know any thing about San Antonio in particular?
thanks a million

Your interviewer lied. I've lived here almost five years now and every year we've gotten at least a dusting once a winter, we get ice storms here too every once in a while. And it for sure gets cold here in the winter. Now, we got 4 inches here last night and by the time I'm typing this over half of it has melted. I'm noticing that this time of year the weather here is wonky, one week it's close to 70 the next week it's snowing. Sucks for my sinuses but I would take this kind of weather over the weather in PA any time any day.

I just gotta ask . . . you are definitely coming, right? And you have posted several times about whether or not Charlotte is what you thought it would be. Seems the best thing to do at this point is just look forward to your move and your new job . . . as there is no decision to be made.
You will be fine!

Sooma, I grew up in the snow belt east of Cleveland, OH and compared to there, we get very little snow...I've been here since early 2005, and this is by far the largest single snow since I moved here...you'll be fine once you get here....btw, my mother said they have had close to 100" of snow this season...they got their first snow in mid Nov (had 8" on the ground when I went up for Thanksgiving). Right now, most of last night's 5" of snow here in Rock Hill is already melted, the only snow left is where the ground has been in the shade most of the afternoon.
Also, by the end of this week, we'll be in the 70s

Well I have an answer why I am doing this,
well it seems the road to your NC license is bumpy a lot more than other places I can tell for sure, one of the most difficult to do so, and causing a lot of possible hurdles that might may be 50% despite of signing the contract few months ago, get me to square one again, so I was just trying to know if that happens would I still be interested in that choice again,,,,, and to be honest with you and make life easier and to get the best feedback you can possibly offer, I might still if even that worst case scenario happens,,, relocate to Charlotte in September or so,,, so just few months after I was supposed to do the move,,, but for your knowlege that per se releases my from my commitment and obligation to abide to their contract, and I am gonna be free again to decide which place to relocate to,,,, because I have no doubt that I hate Cleveland so much, though I am happy here but nothing to do with the city which is really really dying and offering nothing in the near future, especially for physicians,
and the only other 2 cities that I would consider relocating to are
San Antonio
Houston
So what do you think?

Can you hold a comparison for me please, between Charlotte and Cleveland? regarding the things that really matter, and it is really true that charlotte is more expensive 6.5% cost of living?
And by the way,,, is Mathews more expensive,,, or Westlake, or the comparison is wrong,,, I saw the Southpark, and I thought this was much fancier than any thing we have in cleveland, but what compares to Mathews, and I am asking because I am gonna work in Monroe, and I need to have a good reasonal 15minutes commute or so...
thanks you so mcuh

As we are all telling you.......if you are going to Charlotte "thinking" that you are getting away from "Old Man Winter", you are NOT! Just that simple to say. Yes, the winters in the Charlotte area are much better than Ohio or even Colorado, but you MUST understand that Charlotte/North Carolina DOES get a winter. Heck, I've even seen pictures of the beach by Kitty Hawk, NC covered with snow! As for me and only me speaking, if I was single and chosing a place to live, Charlotte would not be on my list (nor Denver, CO either). Expensive or not, So Calif, Las Vegas and even parts of Florida would be.
Heck, I knew a lady who moved from So Calif to Denver, CO and was truely amazed when it snowed there! Well, "Dah" !! Obviously she didn't do her Denver, CO research before moving!
