Good Sign For Charlotte's Future?
Over the past few weeks, maybe months, I've noticed a large influx of threads about folks relocating (or thinking about it) to our fine city seeking advice. Here's a quick list:
That's 12 unique posts just on the first page!!! Go to some of the other city forums on C-D and see if you can match that! This is a much higher rate than normal. Either the search function is busted on the website, or there's just that many more people looking to call Charlotte home.
To me, it takes the hot air right out of the doom-and-gloom outlooks some folks like to tout. Sure, you can throw the rebuttal of "well that's just more unemployed people in our city" but it looks to me like most of the relocators have jobs lined up...and those who don't are just scouting for now (which is how a move starts).
So whatever the message is, you can't deny that there are still folks wanting to move here for one reason or another. Maybe it's just the ebb and flow of things with the folks who lost their job leaving. I don't know.
Interesting...

What you are saying isn't anything new.
Many people want to come and live in the Charlotte region. Who wouldn't?
The problem like some have been saying ad nauseum is that for one reason or another they CAN'T move for several reasons:
1. Not qualifying for a mortgage
2. Fear of not securing full time work
3. Not being able to sell their house where they live now.
These are the main reasons why home sales YOY are down 20-60% in the Charlotte area.
Again, there is no "hot air" being let out w/the threads you posted above (as if you won an argument or something). Attitudes of people around the country haven't changed about how great a place this is.....sorry to burst your bubble...

I know, my mind set has changed a bit, maybe feel less "icky" about job situation, so I plan on spending like normal again, after taking it easy for a bit. Which for me, is I need a new car and am ready to take advantage of a deal.
I see some job progress, but I am sure its going to be a long ugly process.

Queens, the difference now in '09 vs '06 and '07 is that many transplants felt at that time they could secure work down here no problem.
That has changed big time. Jobs are scarce and confidence is low w/many feeling afraid that they might get laid off if things don't stabilize...
Disclaimer: This is not for EVERYONE, just for a good # of people obv

If you have the funds and thought it through, go for it. Dealers are dying for a sale...if you do your homework you can get a real good deal.

My point is the volume of posts recently. Not that there's a change in opinion of Charlotte.
Not that this forum is a perfect sampling of what's going on out there...but it is somewhat representative. I'll plain ole fashion observation over statistical percentages any day...and my eyes are seeing contradictory to the hopeless bleak outlooks.
