You should look into this place. Like Wells Fargo, it’s a call center. They’re hiring 400 people. Maybe it will be right up you’re alley. Good luck.

Cincinnati firm to open Charlotte call center
Charlotte Business Journal - March 15, 2007

Convergys Corp. plans to open a 400-job call center in Charlotte, its second location in the Queen City.

The Cincinnati-based company provides human resources and billing services. It is also the largest third-party customer-contact service provider in the world.

The center, at 8600 McAlpine Park Drive in southeast Charlotte, is slated to open in the third quarter.

The facility will provide general support and technical help-desk services to Convergys clients by phone, e-mail and Web contact as well as back-office applications such as correspondence and processing.

Convergys already has a call center in the University area. The company's other N.C. operations are in Greenville and Jacksonville.

Convergys (NYSE:CVG) is a member of the S&P 500. The company has 74,000 employees in 75 call centers, three data centers and other facilities around the world.

Ain't it all grand? Anyone who can't see the big picture, as to why this is happening... and why our trusted gov't allows it... to happen... is surely out of the loop. Meanwhile, the illegals have plenty of jobs, don't they?

Wake up, everyone. There's a war on... but it isn't nessecarily in Iraq (an occupation), only. The battlefield is being waged against the American middle class.

And after another slam against the Charlotte area (previous post), maybe I should regress for a moment. I understand why people are moving here - to keep their families afloat, cheaper housing, etc. and I apologize for anyone who I offend with my sarcastic take on this area and what it, and other places like it, have become.... But... there is just so much that is wrong with this country... and where it is heading right now... on so many levels. But seemingly, at least from my perspective, it's area's like this where people are most asleep. As I've said before, it's like a synthetic daydream. And partly... it's the reason why I feel so frustrated here.

Does anyone remember a time when America wasn't so obviously flaunting in it's corporate whoredom? Of course not. It's never been this bad. Sickening. First step to change and at least understanding it all: Realize our govt' "Leaders" do not give a flying you know what about you or me. And it's not about dem and repub anymore.... way beyond it.... they're all pretty much bought and paid for. Shame on them. Bastards.

In part, Americans in previous wars didn't die.... so jobs could be outsourced to India, China or wherever.... at the rate they are nowadays - because of crooked, bought and paid for stooges in DC. Everyone had better realize, as in the war on "terror" the battlefield has changed.... Well, there's another war on, too - compliments of corporate America - who have the pull in DC... and it's coming at us all in ways you would have never once thought imaginable. It's happening by design.

This is NOT the way it is supposed to be. And as I write this, and for the upteenth time, I just heard that John Cougar Mellencamp Chevy Commerical...."This is our couuu-nnn-try...." Bullsh*t. It's coporate America's country.

Sorry to get off topic, carry on.

Berkshires413,

I don't think its off topic at all. I kinda think this is a critical aspect of our lives today.

Here we are, contemplating a move to Charlotte in order to maneuvre into a better strategic position in this global economy. So much for friends, family, community and whatever we might have built up here where we now live, where we will now leave...

I do think this war and plunder in Iraq is a convenient distraction, constructed by those whose implicit motives are indeed a war and plunder on a global scale. Let alone the implications of salary arbitrage that qualify the outsourcing of white-collar work to India, the fact that the manufacturing base in this country has been decimated (look, everything is made in China), and the parallel fact that the huge service sector economy provides little if any benefit to the million minions who service it, what remains is this huge sector - the finance economy - whose benefits are seen by but a tiny group of people with such unimaginable wealth, acquired at the expense of so many of us, the remainder of the world.

You see, the working "middle" in this country is being reduced to that common denominator - the working global stiff. This will not stop until the extraction of labor proceeds to level us all into a big guck of workerglops...

So what is one to do? Clamber to the top now, lest the hurricanes in our future wipe our little victories off into the mire. Or stand up and out and say it again and again and again - looklook, people, to what we do unto ourselves!

"Oh, nowhere..." I replied. And then I thought for a moment.... and then kinda laughed, because it actually did feel as if I just drove around...and through... nowhere. Hmm.... I had just returned home... from nowhere. What a moment of deep thought, I had just experienced.

Like the old saying goes, "Everywhere you go, there you are..." But, of course, if you are in a place that feels like nowhere, such as the Charlotte suburbs (and many other plastic places in America) it's all the more bizarre. Maybe this is the one saving grace about being here. The suburban sprawl of modern America is such an enigma... wrapped up inside a riddle.

But luckily, there are plenty of Pizza Huts and OutBack Steakhouses, whatever, etc., to keep you sustained as you try to understand that riddle/enigma... until you can move out... if, of course, that is what you so desire. [as the U2 song "Desire" reverberates around my head... I can hear the lyrics now.... "Lover, I'm on the street... gonna go where Taco Bell and CVS meet..."]

Ya know, I would love to hear Clay Aiken do a cover of that song, with those embellished lyrics. It would be so NC for the year 2007, no? Maybe it could become the state's or even better - the Charlotte area's theme song? Man, what a marketing gimmick that could be. "Desire" to move here, Clay Aiken, shopping, driving, subdivisions with names like "Deer Crescent Run", cell phones, more shopping.... mmmm... gimme gimmee gimmeee! This place would be about 20 million in 2 years. Easy. And this forum itself would explode even more, as well............... completely over-jammed with people who have handles like "NYMom0f7", "MovinToNCparadise" or "CookieCutter4ME". Ahh... I can see it now. Oh wait, I already do. But imagine it all X 10? Party time!

Well... anyways... getting back on track here, ahem (sorry)... For myself, or anyone else who values a sense of place, character or culture - This area can be quite surreal. A surrealness that I can imagine might only be matched if you sniffed some paint thinner while watching an old episode of Lawrence Welk. Yes, I think that highly of it all here.

PS: Just out of curiosity, does anyone know a hardware store around that sells cheap turpentine in bulk? Thanks in advance.
ohjeez B413....WRITE MORE! or else i'll have to track you down at that starbucks, or that one , or that, or that...

wasn't it that baldbearded fella who wrote, "hell is empty, and all the devils are here?"

Can you give more details about the collections area? Hate to admit it but I have a lot of experience in the field and it pays the bills...

Sorry I have never worked in the collections area only mortgages. You can go to the Wells Fargo site and look at the available openings and view the job descriptions. Please let me know if you need assistance on the site.
