IBM mortgage unit sets up in Charlotte
Company will provide loan processing services

IBM Corp. has launched a new business unit in Charlotte that aims to help mortgage lenders with back-office processing functions.

The Armonk, N.Y., technology giant has already hired about 60 people at its campus in University Research Park off W.T. Harris Boulevard. As the business grows, the unit plans to expand to "several hundred" employees, said Greg Sullins, the unit's executive director.

IBM employs about 13,000 in North Carolina, with about 1,000 in Charlotte.

What kind of jobs are being eliminated? We are thinking of moving down there but we have been looking at houses and it looks like it may be a flooded market.

Does anyone know why there are so many single family homes for sale?
