Again, as I said in another thread, whereever you have crowds, you will have people who will also go to take advantage of people. I was more worried today walking through the parking garage at South Park than I ever am at any store in my area.

I don't feel at all scared when I go to the Bi-lo or Harris Teeter in Fort Mill. They are well lit, no shady people around, nobody blocking the fire lanes, and often times police officers around.

I've noticed a lot of security vehicles and police presence around the Harris Teeter & Bi-Lo next to Rivergate, as well. Rivergate has their own security patrol, too.

The Rite Aid (former Eckerd) on South Blvd has a sherriff in there at all times. You don't usually see this where it isn't needed. |

I guess you can't eliminate all crime everywhere. All in all, I still think Steele Creek is safe. I don't know anything about the Northlake Mall-- only been there once, and it was a nice visit.

We are living in a 'city,' not the burbs.' People need to keep there eyes and ears peeled in any city. Charlotte is no different than Philly, D.C., Baltimore, Richmond, Hartford, Boston, Atlanta, etc. Comes with the territory of living in a 'major' city.

That's interesting that someone was robbed. I went to northlake mall about two weeks ago on a Friday around 5:00 pm. My city instincts kicked in. Something wasn't right.
I noticed a lot of patrols on bikes that appeared to be searching for someone. I went into the mall. Two security guards were located in Ann Taylor Loft. Security in Macy's. Security in New York & Co. and the employees in Aeropostle appeared to be on guard looking for someone. I watched the manager talked to the employees. I left before dark. My senses told me that something was going on and I left the mall because I was alone. I called my friend and told them about the entire incident. I thought I was being paranoid but it looks like I wasn't. |

My gf is always talking about how they are arresting people in her store for stealing or calling the police. Basically she says, Northlake is becoming the new Eastland. She has worked there since before the mall even opened, so she has seen it change. yes, she is trying to find another job.

I am new here (1 month) and moving to Northstone and work in uptown. I find the uptown pretty safe and where I am going to live (Northstone) to be a great community.
I have lived in Boston, New York and most recently in Washington, D.C. Let me tell you, there were over 460 homicides in the Baltimore - Washington corridor last year. Yet I knew where to go and still have a good time and not fear for my life. I also knew where not to go. Now tell me how bad crime is in Charlotte. All I am saying is it is relative depending on where you live or were brought up. In my short time here, I have found this to be a friendly, vibrant area. We need to keep that positive vibe going and be proactive in fighting crime and promoting fellowship. |

When I was up there, it was on a Saturday about 11:00 am. The mall was pretty empty, but I thought it seemed very nice and clean. A friend of mine who lives in Huntersville echoed the same things you've said about the mall and won't go there without her husband. |
