In the Concord area there's Windstream, in the Monroe area there's Verizon, and in most of York County there's Comporium. Other than that, AT&T is the only company that's going to offer traditional landline service. You might find a mom-and-pop carrier, but they'll still be using AT&T's lines.

We have Comporium down here in Ayrsley. I needed a land-line for my home office. Fairly inexpensive - unlimited local and LD, caller ID, voicemail - bill has always been $29.37 per month since I had the service turned on last Summer.

I have never heard of U-verse?

I did hear something positive about AT&T..they are bringing back all of the support state-side. Hopefully it will be done by the end of this year. That's a great thing! Many people will be put back to work in THIS country.
