Default From Textiles to Biotechnology

Everyday I see more and more news about the biotechnology industry replacing the closed textile mills in the areas surrounding Charlotte. I think this is exciting news for this area, bringing technical training and higher wages.

Wingate University has recently opened a school of pharmacy that is doing very well: http://pharmacy.wingate.edu/home.asp

With the close of Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, the new North Carolina Research Campus, said to rival the Research Triangle Park area (near Raleigh/Durham):

Most of the area community colleges are gearing up to "re-train" the displaced textile and furniture industry workers.

Anybody have any first-hand knowledge of how this transition is going?

Ah ha, an update on the North Carolina Research Campus in today's Charlotte Observer (March 22, 2007):

If that's the area between Earnhardt Blvd and Jackson in Kannapolis that thing's going up fast. Back in early November they imploded the water tower and now there's a huge facility that's growing extremely quickly. Looks beautiful.

Default Biotech hub

Glad someone else is thinking about this. It looks like Kannapolis is being granted an incredible opportunity for renewal. I currently live in Cornelius and work in Mooresville, but I am strongly considering moving to Kannapolis or Concord to benefit from all the new development there.

Can anyone speak to any real estate opportunities there? So far, I'm looking at Afton Village. My budget is $150 and I think I could buy a "Preselling" Savannah Style rowhouse there. Or, should I stick to a 3b/2b house?
Thanks

Default Cannon Village Textile Museum

Hey, when you are over in Concord/Kannapolis visiting the Cannon Village Home Furnishing Market, don't miss the Textile Museum. Pretty interesting stuff!

This home furnishing market is right next door to the new research center - I noticed a note on their website that said some of their outdoor events were limited during the demolition of the old Cannon Mill/construction of the research site.
