Totally up to you, Mike, totally up to you. That IS a freedom guaranteed in the Constitution...at least the laughing part.

Does it really matter WHICH state in the country has the most mobile homes? Some people just look for bad things to say about a place, just to try to make the place they come from look better - seems pretty petty to me.

The title of this thread is "Do Charlotte Natives generally dislike Northerners" - I would say any northerner who moves here to strictly take advantage of the good things here, then turns around and critisizes the local people, culture or landscape is a northerner that will be disliked. If you don't fit that description (arrogant, pompous, self-involved) you will do fine among the natives in North Carolina.

Unfortunately, I grew up in Charlotte, but don't worry because I am hardly there - I went away, far away, for college. I would of much rather moved to Atlanta or Florida if I had to go south, but back then I didn't make the decisions.

Sounds like you made the right decision for you, then.

Good luck, and enjoy the taxes.

I can honestly say I'm very glad I made the move from up north to the Charlotte area. Great move for me.

I would say that people in the states / areas that I lived in (Indiana, Colorado, and now North Carolina) generally dislike people from the North East - but they wouldn't say it right into your face if you are from there.

In Indiana and Colorado it had a lot to do with perceived differences in values. The perception was that people from the North East don't share the same values about god, social issues, and that people are generally cold and unfriendly and that they only look after themselves. This is what I gathered from conversations / discussions.

Even though I moved to North Carolina only 10 days ago, there were several occurrences where natives told me that they are happy that I am not another person from the North East and that, even though I'm not from the South, we have a common set of values. When I asked what these are, common "bible belt" beliefs named.

I live in a small town around Charlotte where most people are natives and there is a fear amongst the population and politicians that the town might become "Northernized".

Conclusion: I think that Northerners generally do not seem to be highly regarded, but nobody would outright say it (especially not to a Northerner).

And did you know that the poverty rate is higher in NY state then NC. NY is 14.5% while NC is 13.8.
First of all let me say that natives dont hate people from the NE,they hate what results from mass insurgency from places that people openly say are crappy places to live, because they dont want it here. NJ and NY,MA take shots from people all over the country not just here. I think its because they tend to stand out and really cant blend in so they take the main blame for destroying any good place to live.(I think unfairly to some extent).

I think when they mean values, they mean if you aren't a Christian or a Baptist. I think what they are afraid of is all the different kinds of religions and beliefs that aren't exactly like them. It's called being ignorant.

I am just curious, what town is this? Or are you afraid to say in case people "discover" it?

NC I have to agree with you there, Im from NY/NJ and im not arrogant or rude, and love the way of life here...I have met many natives whom we have become friendly with and the consenses is, they dont like the rudeness and the wanting to change things HOWEVER it isnt just the Northerners that are like that..Ive met plenty people from Florida, Ohio and Colorado yes I lived in Littleton Co for 5.5 years and being jewish i and from NY it was the MOST awful place to be....but that is another story...Anyway I dont feel like that here so far, and I guess because im in a "Northerner part of town" as some would say I dont hear it like some people in other areas...Not saying it doesnt exisist but neither dh or I have encountered it...People are very welcoming and if u respect people they will respect you bottom line...

That's not being ignorant. That's not wanting other influences that they don't believe being forced upon them. In the north, in many places, you can no longer say, "Merry Christmas" around the holidays for fear of being castigated in some fashion, be it stated, or a change in body language. Some civil servants who happen to be Christian are not allowed to have a small, decorated tree at their desk over the holidays (at their own expense of course), or aren't allowed to decorate the office if all agree that it would be okay. In the meantime, other religions that have holidays around that time are more than welcome to be expressed (sometimes they're even "encouraged" where there isn't any representation in the office).

This is exactly what the larger cities are doing to everyone wherever they can. The "tolerance" being taught in cities on the west coast and up in the north-east is not tolerance. It's just a different sort of prejudice. They can keep it there, if it suits them. I came down to Charlotte to get away from that form of bigotry.

No, I'm not a Christian (I'm an ex-Catholic), but I do share some values. I've seen too much of the bigotry of the north to deal with it anymore. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, this country IS a Christian one, founded by Christians. You'll find a great many references to "God" in several government documents. There is NO separation of church and state in the Constitution. There is freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion. Folks seem to forget that.

If someone says, "Merry Christmas", it's not an epithet, it's wishing good will to a fellow human. But somehow it's been turned into something "evil".

This is what "tolerance" and "enlightenment" have wrought in the north. I would be fearful of not being able to express myself either, without fear of some sort of illogical lawsuit being forced on me. Political correctness has just caused people to become insular from each other, and will always hamper communication between people, regardless if it is two individuals talking to each other or groups interacting.
