I currently teach HS Science in Alabama, and seeking a position in CMS. But I read that they are looking to layoff 1000 teachers. Is this number above and beyond the retirees, relocating teachers, and the teachers that will not be renewed? The future seems to look bleak in my prospects of finding a position. Does anyone in the CMS have any insight into this?

It won't even be anywhere close to 1000 - personally I think they are using this budget crunch as a way to get rid of some teachers they have issues with. Just remember, we are opening 5 brand new schools in the fall - unless the kids are gonna teach themselves, those schools will all need teachers

Oh, and math and science teachers WILL NOT be let go especially - with your degree and experience I'm betting you could find a job.

I think it's all grades 1-12, but I'm not really sure. I am not a teacher or in the system in anyway so I can't really tell you anymore. Just keep your eyes open and get your resume out to every school prinicipal at every school you think you are interested in.

Ive got my app on the state education web site, is that not sufficient, because it contains most of whats listed on my resume minus some research and papers that have been published.

They are really laying off teachers. I know. Special Ed, Math, Science, CTE, certain foreign languages, and a few more are exempt from the process. Hmmmmmmmmmm....

German isn't taught at a majority of the schools, I'm afraid. But there is definite interest in it. If you are elementary certified check out the language immersion school Smith Acadamy - I'm pretty sure they offer German

Smith Academy of International Languages : Welcome!
