I don't know much about the school but it seems that it is often associated with negative things. Here's some positive news.

Lions' defense gets job done (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/preps/story/598267.html - broken link)

After 71 years of waiting, West Charlotte's girls are finally N.C. 4A champions.

The Lions (28-3) stopped Durham Hillside 78-60 at the Smith Center with the same trademark defense that's helped West Charlotte to 103 wins over the past four years. It was West Charlotte's ninth state basketball championship. The boys have eight.

Default WC Lions

I had the pleasure of watching this team play numerous times this season.

I am a Butler fan and I hated that they lost but I am pleased that Charlotte/Mecklenburg girls basketball was dominant this season.

The West Charlotte girls are very talented and well coached but, most importantly, they carried themselves with class and dignity, even when faced with a defeat. They were incredibly fun to watch and I am glad the championship trophy is back in Charlotte.

Basketball will give many of these girls the opportunity for a free college education! Good luck on the next level.
