Looking for info. on a great spot to live in Charlotte that would satisfy the following
- close to shopping, restaurants
- possible walk to coffee shops
- safe neighborhood
- green space
- condo or sigle family homes
- price range 400 to 500 K

Oh....and does Charlotte have unique independent boutique and gift stores???? Looking for some charming stores that I can buy gifts and home decor.

Thanks for the help.

I say look in Dilworth (East Blvd) for homes/condos and for shopping go to shops around Southpark. Specifically the stores at Phillips Place. Good luck!

Good Luck on your upcoming move. I'm just a visitor to the Charlotte area (hope to move there eventually). Whenever I go to visit my friends we go to Kirklands and Garden Ridge. You will find great home decor and gifts there.

I concure with the Kirklands idea, nice store and not expensive.

Dilworth if you have kids, drive an SUV, and voted for McCain and Elizabeth if you like bicycling, drive a Volvo, and voted for Obama. Both are great neighborhoods, easy to walk to places, but I like living in Elizabeth because its a lot more laid back. Paper Skyscraper on East Blvd is the only independent gift store that I know of, but its a great little shop.

You've got good recommendations on neighborhoods already.

In addition to Paper Skyscraper, I would also suggest the Canvas Monkey in NoDa for fun/funky stuff and Buckets in Ayrsley.

I agree with the other suggestions!

Kirkland's and Garden Ridge are two of my favorite stores but I don't consider them to be "unique independent" stores. However along those same lines. Hobby Lobby is a great place to shop. It's kind of a mix between Garden Ridge, Kirkland's and Michael's. There are a lot of nice home decor and unique items.

A local favorite store is Black Lion. There are also independent stores in the NoDa arts district and Historic South End (http://www.historicsouthend.com/areaGuide.asp?keywords=&searchType=5&subCategory=0 &price=&subCategory=0&subCategory=0&subCategory =0 - broken link).

I'm sure there are more out there. If you don't mind driving, I know that there are independent stores in Downtown Belmont, example Piccolo Antique Mall & Fine Consignments
