But, my husband loves to play Texas Hold 'Em, and would really love to play for fun & low-stakes. He played at a great in-home poker house in Oregon that was legal as long as there was no alcohol or smoking (and there never was).
Please PM me if you know of home game needing an extra player, and I'll pass the msg. along to my husband (since he's too busy watching poker on tv right now to post this himself). Thanks!
OK, all you NJ transplants....I know some of you were Atlantic City regulars!
Where do Charlotte dwellers go to play some Poker, or Blackjack? I'm not interested in slots, we need Craps, Poker, and Blackjack.thanks!
I have friends that zip down to the Bahamas or Nassau for a long weekend when the gambling bug strikes. It is an easy trip from Charlotte to the islands- probably easier than to LV. I went onto Expedia & found air/hotel packages from $500- $2,000 for a 3d/2n trip.
The Bahamas offers great gambling facilities on Grand Bahama, Paradise Island and in Nassau. One of the most impressive casinos in the world is at the huge Atlantis Paradise Island Resort which offers one of the largest gaming facilities in the world. 46 blackack, 10 craps, 10 roulette, two baccarat tables and almost 1,000 slot machines (ranging from 25¢ to $100) keep gamblers busy 24 hours a day.

Happy gambling!
We love both the Bahamas and Vegas, but both are really TRIPS. We are spoiled now by being able to spontaneously hop in the car and take a day trip to a couple of casinos for the cost of gas.
thanks everyone for all your insight...are you sure there are no Indian Reservations in NC or SC that are just primed to become a Casino in the next 5 years or so.....
best alternative to atlantic city/las vegas casino gambling - slots. roulette, poker, blackjack and even craps - go to charlestown west va. = they also have dog track - you can even get a real drink while playing

There's plenty other places I'd goto before Charlestown WV to do gambling...

just sayin'...
I love gambling (responsibly, and only while on vacation, btw). I have blast at the tables, and it's worth the money I sometimes lose for the fun I have. But going anywhere in driving distance doesn't do it for me. The video tables at Cherokee suck. And I even like video blackjack in Vegas (for $1-5/hand), but to pay $10/hand for video blackjack is horrible.
For me, the closest thing to even expect a good time while losing your money is in NJ, CT, or FL.
There are plenty of live games in the Charlotte area, both tourney style and cash depending on what you like. I may just know someone who knows where some of these are
South Carolina may be taking the first steps toward legalized gambling IMO starting with home games.

If SC was smart they'd allow casinos in the state. (It would be the same as like having lotteries) (tax on the stupid), or like they do in NC w/the ABC stores....let govco get a cut and everyone is happy....
Probably won't happen for many years though...
he legislation is to allow in-house social gambling, such as a friendly game of poker among friends, and it would allow state certified non-profits to raise money by way of selling raffle tickets four times a year. 90% of the money raised would have to go to charity.
State residents would also get a chance to vote to allow churches, schools, and other non-profit organizations to hold raffles.
West Virginia has some, but they're probably a 5 or 6 hour drive.
