I miss The Copal, Knife 'n' Fork, Athens, and a few others.
Not all change is good. This is one of those cases.
The Copal is still ther. I was recently disappointed to see that the Knife n Fork has a for sale sigh, and all of us drunk teenagers back then stopped at Athens a time or two. Or, the KK on Independence anyway.
Growing up we used to go to Casa Gadardo ( i know i murdered the spelling) It was where Quaker state is now in Park Rd shopping center, I was young but I remember my Mom loving the place. Much more recently I miss Wize Guyz in Ballantyne some of the best wings around. I second Jimmy's at CPCC used to eay lunch there everyday. Good Thread.
LOVED that place. If you overlooked the stained carpet and the cracked window glass, it had awesome breakfast, anytime of the day. Loved the spaghetti too.
Back when families from south Charlotte actually traveled to Independence Blvd and Eastland Mall area to shop and do business. Yep, a long time ago.
Sure do, that was a unique place to eat when in the Eastland Mall area.
Back when, I'm not kidding, Eastland and Southpark malls were of largely the same quality (I'm talking very early 80's here folks )
The SouthPark cafeteria discussion brought back great memories too. Joining the long line at Morrison's, before or after a movie at the SouthPark movie theater, was a big treat with the folks.
Gus' Sir Beef on Morehead was a treat too, when going down Eastway to Independence, to attend an event at the old, old Coliseum. Or to see a movie at the Capri (Rocky Horror midnight showings comes to mind).
This is a longshot, but how about The Family House in Matthews?
The location currently is El Valle Mexican restaurant.
We probably ate there 2x a week growing up.
My family ran a company tab there, had parties there (70s), fun times.
I can still taste their marinated beef tips.

LOL, yes Eastland was a destination, no doubt for decades.
Although once Southpark got a Chick-fil-A (across from Woolworth's near the current central escalators) I knew Eastland's demise was only a matter of time.

The Copal was torn down today. Building was in too bad of shape to salvage so the current owners, just had it bulldozed. Too bad, another classic bites the dust.
I miss that sub place that was in southpark...Mel's maybe ? Can't remember the name. It was kind of hidden down a side exit. To this day I crave the italian sub from there.
