Fort Mill vs. Charlotte area?
My husband and I are both teachers in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are considering a move because:
1. We have family in Charlotte.
2. California home prices are OUTRAGEOUS ($600,000 for a 1200 sq ft house with no yard with no upgrades).
3. We are tired of the politics (Republicans are complete ousiders)
4. We could never afford to start a family here in CA
Any advice on a safe, suburban area close to Charlotte?

The southern regions of Charlotte are nice. Anywhere from South Park to Fort Mill, SC or to Union County depending on your price range. The closer in to Charlotte the higher the prices. If you'd like info on schools in Fort Mill you can pm me. For Union Co and CMS you can find info on my website where you can also do a property search for homes. I talked with two homebuyers over the weekend that are moving from California and they seem happy to be here.

Teachers are needed all over the metro area, so come on down!
I believe you should definitely check out Fort Mill, south Charlotte, Union county and the north end of the county in Huntersville. These are all nice, safe areas with beautiful homes

Thank you, we fortunately have money to spend considering we have real estate in Northern California.
I will do some more research, I appreciate the help.

I like Huntersville. We didn't look at the south end because of my husband's commute to Charlotte, Raleigh, and Greensboro, but hear it's nice. We have several CA families in the neighborhood, too. You might want to find a job first before you buy a home, just because the commute can be an issue if you work on the south side and live on the north, and visa versa.
I love Rosedale!

I have to say Fort Mill as well. My wife and I are from the Bay Area as well and I will say that you really can find a great place to live just about anywere in Charlotte. You will find you have too many good choices, what a great problem to have. The contrasts to the Bay Area homes will blow you away and the neighborhoods are really amazing.
Feel free to ask us questions should you have any. We just came back from a 10 day Charlotte scouting trip. Good Luck.
