I was not the class president or vp (I was fun-time guy), but met with both today at the Epicentre downtown to put the wheels in motion.
They both work for BofA.
Epicentre - nice place!
I had never been and was impressed (I do not get downtown much since I left FUNB in 1995).
If I was single-guy I would love that as a hang-out party place.

You read that Pew statistic, right? That about 74% of North Carolinians who were born here - stay here? Maybe it was 76%. Anyway, I am not surprised so many of your classmates are still here. What is interesting w/ my class . . . some of us moved away but everyone is slowly coming back home. Amazing.
I am sure you all will put a super event together!

Has anyone heard from SouthBound in the last week? I am used to seeing her post - and I keep up with the progress at her home (renovations) by PM . . . and I have not heard from her I think in a week. I am kinda worried about her.

Kookcinich has one hell of a large set!!! Balls of steel!
As you know I am for the right to bear arms. But his stance on handguns is being a little distorted. here's what he has proposed:
Kucinich supports the following principles regarding guns:
" Reauthorize the ban on the sale or transfer of semi-automatic guns, except those used for hunting.
Maintain and strengthen the current level of enforcement of existing federal restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns.
Require background checks on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows.
Require a license for gun possession.
Require manufacturers to provide child-safety locks.
Establish a national database of ballistic “fingerprints” to track guns used in criminal activities.
Strengthen the enforcement of existing federal restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns. "
So he's not really preaching a complete ban on all handguns. But I still disagree with some of this stuff he proposes.
Otherwise I pretty much agree with most of his approaches and ideas. Not all, but most. That's better than any other candidate.
As for Ron Paul, you may want to read this and get a better idea of what context Paul made those comments. He was commenting on poll statistics and the crime rate in D.C. back in the early 90's. Which sadly was accurate
The "racism" charge and Ramesh Ponnuru
" So, Paul in a newsletter in 1992 pointed out the truth that blacks, particularly blacks in D.C., commit fantastically high rates of crime; he pointed out that blacks are at least 90 percent leftist and statist in their political leanings; and he said that "by far" the worst lobby in D.C. is the Israeli government. Bernstein also said, though he doesn't provide a direct quote, which makes the assertion very questionable, that Paul said that the goal of the Zionist movement is to stifle criticism. And on this basis Sager states conclusively that Paul is "racist" and an "anti-Semite." All nuance is out. Sager doesn't merely say that Paul unfairly attacked the Israeli government, which would be an arguable charge. Sager doesn't merely say that Paul made an anti-Israel statement, which would be an arguable charge. Sager doesn't merely say that Paul made an anti-Semitic statement, which might just barely be an arguable charge. No. Sager called Paul himself an "anti-Semite." Period. Meaning that Paul is a person who has a fixed hostility against Jews as Jews.
And Ramesh Ponnuru, without any qualification or caveat, linked Sager's article with its summary statement that Paul is a "pretty racist" and "an anti-Semite" and commented, "Race and Ron Paul, this is pretty bad."
This is not your father's National Review. It's not even your older brother's National Review. This is a National Review that has been by taken over by chestless liberals who casually call people "racist" and "anti-Semite" on the flimsiest of evidence.
The racism charge and Ramesh Ponnuru. Pretty bad. "
Quite frankily, I don't see where he's wrong on anything.
|
He's wrong on multiple fronts. Quite frankly, I'm not sure how he became such an authority on Blacks (or any number of other subjects).
The absurdity of painting an entire race with such a broad stroke ... no, that wouldn't be racist at all.
The (mis)statements that I see repeated over (and over) here have become astounding (and maybe just a little disheartening or maybe just disgusting).
Fortunately, I know that good and bad exist the world over and I allow people into my life based on their individual merit.
Let me retreat into my leftist, crime ridden, ghettoized version of life (because it can't be any other way apparently) ...

I'm not quite sure that a revision in people's credit is a bad thing. Why do ppl. have to be "happy"? Perhaps if they had less credit they would be happier at month's end when they didn't have so many bills to pay and didn't upchuck when they saw the 21% (!!!!) interest rate the CROOKS at the bank charge.
Bank, scmank, John Gotti's social club in Howard Beach was about 6 miles from my house at even he didn't charge that rate. (at least I don't think so).
And with him you paid on time. These CROOKS just keep adding it on. Help me out here...what does 21% EVERY month add up to after a year or so on those dresses, shoes, shirts and ties? My calculator when kaboom just now when I tried that equation.

Well, John, people think that they are "entitled" to their credit lines and are equally insulted at the new values for their homes that we are getting with the AVM (computer-generated appraisal). Of course, since I am on the other end of the phone and happen to answer it, it is ALL MY FAULT. It is my fault that there are foreclosures in their neighbourhoods that are dragging down the values of their homes, it is my fault that the bank has adjusted their line of credit and it is my fault that their letters of explanation or whatever they decide to use to appeal (other than what is actually required) is not accepted. One guy told me, point blank, that I was useless since I could not do what he was demanding of me. Others scream obscenities, call me names, and otherwise threaten death (seriously) and/or destruction. It truly is exhausting. This assignment has strengthened my resolve to never call a customer service number, if I have a complaint, send it in writing and include a higher authority (like the atty general or something) rather than ever deal with anyone personally.

Well. I can appreciate the position you're in b/c you know what I do to put food on my table. I have bought and owned houses in CLT while the prev. owners have cleaned out their garage while I waited on the front lawn of the house I paid all cash and owned. Not a nice thing.
You talk about "entitlement". One woman asked me to store her bedroom dresser in the garage b/c it was too big to move . After a month and a half I had my guy "move it". She came back looking for it. Balls.
