And re-reading my post I am not anti-American.
I love the ideals of America (Bill of Rights, Constitution, the genius of a three branch system), just not inthralled with what's become of it.
Yet, a voting people always get exactly what they deserve, so it is up to us to change what we do not like.

As a people I think we've caved in to too many special interest groups, too afraid of offending people, we've become overly sensitive. But that's us. We've allowed well-wishing someone a "Merry Christmas" to become the 21st century "f**k you". We're the ones allowing schools to not keep scores in sporting events, hence not teaching kids the value of learning from failing. We're the ones allowing harmless phrases like, "nappy headed ho's" from a former shock jock to cause someone to lose his job. That's us and I believe it's cyclical. Once it becomes too much, the majority will eventually take it back. I think some of us have lost sight on what's made us great in the past, but I still think there's no greater country and no greater promise than this one.

I think this pretty much fits in with what your speaking about. This shouldn't even be an issue, this is America and as my grandparents taught me, love it or leave it, and I believe it's time for a few to go. If you are offended by the American flag and what it and we stand for, than leave. I believe this falls under the "caving in" category. She is supporting her children, vets and those who have fallen in duty for this great country and someone is offended? She was celebrating a "holiday", this stuff angers me to no end.

Y'all are great. It is so nice to be amongst people who can share opinions - and whether we all agree or not - still have meaningful conversation and often - learn something new!!! I really enjoy hearing other people's opinions-especially when they differ from mine. One must keep an open mind to learn and grow.
I really am concerned that there doesn't seem to be the emphasis on "citizenship" - what it means to be a citizen of this country . . . and what it took (the sacrifices) to form this country. We take our liberties for granted (and oh-so-easy for them to be eroded away when no one is paying attention!!!)
I read Jefferson and I understand what it meant to put the country before personal success or glory. Jefferson did not even have his headstone engraved w/ the fact that he served as President! I think our sovereignty has been diminished here at home as well as w/ our reputation around the globe. And I think that it is not even clearly understood what it means to protect our country anymore. We are not missionaries, for God's sake, here to spread Democracy all over the place. We need to take care of business here at home. Not saying I am into isolationism, but what about focusing on our infrastructure here in the USA FIRST? Plus, our states are supposed to be separate entities w/ their own laws and regs . . . but all states have accepted so much Fed $$ over the years - we are like beggars w/ our hands out and have gotten dependent on Fed $$ (wh/ are accompanied by FED REGS). I want to see local decisions at the grassroots level.
But as CHI said . . . unfortunately . . . most of us don't even know who we are voting for, lol. Candidates end up being made or broken by the media, it seems. You would think in this age of instant real time info . . . we would not only understand the issues - we would know a candidates track record and history (not just campaign rhetoric).
I guess I am rambling. Just wanted to thank you all for being so much fun to communicate with. And I do hope someone can make me feel better about "putting America first." I think we all need to put the needs of this country ahead of our own personal agenda (talking about both political and business leaders here). But sadly, I just don't see it happening. I am still so angry about the banking debacle, I guess . . . and the bail out . . .

As a permanent resident for 5 years (aka green card holder, legal alien etc) I am now in a position to take the US Citizenship test ( I haven't decided whether to do so or not) and I wondered if the people who do take their citizenship for granted, had to resit the test, be able to answer the questions that they ask you. I have provided a link - be honest with your score LOL

I got 95%. The one I missed is embarrassingly elementary but I won't reveal it since others have not taken the test. I would have missed two more but luckily, I had read something last week that pertained to the answers and so I remembered it. Had I not read that info, I would have missed two more items (one was a date). I think that would mean I would have barely passed the exam.
