Default Eastern White Pine in Clay?

Has anyone had any success growing white pines in the Charlotte area? My wife and I really like them and would like to plant some for some privacy, but I have read online that they don't do well in heavy clay soils. I was just wondering if anyone here knows much about evergreens similar to the white pine that would do better in this type of soil.

Thanks!

You can do something like Leyland Cypress, but their form is significantly different from white pines.

There are tons of large shrubs/small trees to choose from that may serve. Have you considered hollies?

I have planted 2 in clay, and mind, none of my trees do extra well, but they arent doing any worse than the blue spruce or arborvitae. If i would recommend a tree for this climate, it would be the deodar cedar.

Thanks for the replies. We wound up getting blue spruces, and they are doing well.
