The observer is running a piece today on how more people are claiming UE bene's that don't qualify....

Is anyone surprised or that naive thinking this wouldn't happen?

When you base collecting on the "honor system" where you file online and just answer a few questions each week w/o any proof, what do you think was going to happen??? Desperate people are going to push the envelope so to speak.....

I guess the NCESC figured they could "streamline" the system and save money, however its backfired bigtime.....

Well I have a relative that was overpaid (not his fault) and finally got them to stop it. Then they sent him a letter telling him he owed $2500 and to call a specific number to set up a payback plan (which he was fine with b/c he didn't spend the money). Well he's been calling for a MONTH and cannot get anyone to call him back(it was a number where all you can do is leave a message). So here is someone who is begging to return the $$ and can't even get anyone to take it. But he gets threatning letters once a week telling him he owes the amount. It's just ridiculous!

This is a situation where new jobs can be created. Personal auditors that are trained to come out and specifically visit those who are applying for Unemployment benefits and see what is really going on. So many people want a free dollar from the government and they aren't thinking about the future of our children and our country and once the money is gone we are in big trouble.

But its a "Free Market"!!!! Yes, a "Free for All" for all of those that know the ends and outs to get your tax dollars.....soooo that they can live "high" on the hog...while you are chewing on the feet!!
Meanwhile there are those that will cheat on the unemployment method...just because they can. What is the difference......none!!!
Shame, Pride, and Honesty have a whole new definition......ME...MY...and MINE!!!

According to the media, the CEOs who cheat the system should be drawn and quartered? Those who do this? Barely any mention of it.

If you know that someone is cheating, there is a way to report it.

My feeling is . . . the bennies are there b/c the employer paid into the system and the worker put in the hours. So, the system is a good thing and has helped many of us at times when we lost jobs due to no fault of our own.

There is always gonna be corruption in any system, b/c people are capable of cheating. However, the cheaters usually get caught up with and have to answer for their wrong doing.

Our state has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, so even if the cheaters make up only 1% - that equates to a lot of people.

Unfortunately, greed got us into this situation: Greed at the top w/ people making more money in a month than many of us make in a year - and greed w/ homeowners who lied on loan apps and got in over their heads - and greed w/ corporations that send work oversees causing job loss here at home..

Many levels of our society got us to this place. And greed put us here.

The ESCs were not equipped to handle such huge numbers of unemployed workers w/in a short span of time. This makes it easier for someone to scam the system. There are always gonna be those who try to take advantage of situations. Remember how many people tried to scam the system after 9/11 and Katrina?

If you know of someone who is scamming the system, report them. Many states, just like ours, are in a deficit situation w/ funds for those checks.

Isn't the top rate for unemployment about 500/week? I don't blame people for cheating, how can an adult live on 500/week?

I'd try to cheat the system too.

I'd blame the employers for creating this mess that layed people off, not the people that are now suffering.
