Memorial Day Beach Trip
I'd like to take my two year old daughter to the beach for her birthday over Memorial Day. We typically go to Myrtle beach and I just found out that there is a bike week there during this time.
I'd like some suggestions for a beach that is within 3-4 hours from both Raleigh (other family member driving from here) and Charlotte.
- Clean beach
- Close proximity to restaurants
- Family friendly but not isolated
- Not a stuffy atmosphere
Also, if you've stayed at a resort that you'd recommend that would be helpful.
Thanks everyone,
Susanne & Katie

Ocean Isle Beach.
Sea Trail Resort in Sunset Beach is really nice too.

As a thought, have you considered the possibility of going to Virginia Beach instead? You can spend the entire time on the boardwalk, never too far away from anything.

+1 for Ocean Isle Beach. Holden Beach is amazing, too. Maybe a little less to do there than OIB, but still a wonderful family beach.
Have you looked into Emerald Isle? That might be the closest for the Raleigh folks. Never been, but heard great things.

I thought Myrtle Beach was not welcoming the bikers this year?

The only problem is that VA Beach is kind of dumpy.

Look on VRBO.com (Vacation Rentals by Owner) for some great deals, don't know about the beach/areas. I know the gulf coast is clean.

The beaches around Charleston are the best in the Carolinas, and even though it's farther away milage wise from Charlotte, b/c it's freeway all the way there, it's quicker to get there...Isle of Palms is the best family beach, Sullivans Island, which has no hotels, only rental cottages & houses, is less crowded.
