Hi there! Were supposedly going to move to Lawson in June...that is UNLESS I find an afterschool program that services Kensington Elementary. The school is not too much help today when I called-they say their own program is great, etc. I work until 5:30p each day Uptown and need somewhere that is open until 6:30pm-does nothing out there exist like this? Were in Southwest Charlotte and we love the church that my son is in now for before and afterschool...any suggestions? Thanks so much for any and all input.

I made the mistake of assuming it would be easier than SoFl.
Charlotte's childcare is very expensive and not too accomodating when it comes to hours and schedule + schools get a lot of day offs, holidays and time off.
IE: The aftercare scenario in SF is $35/week and sports or arts can be added for a nominal fee. Here is $55/week and the only option to add sport is enroll in the YMCA, which can add more that 100/month taking in consideration that one must pay for Club membership plus cost of program.

I agree! I'm originally from NY and there seems to be more available. I found a great one near us now and they serve hot snacks, and also don't charge $30per day of spring break like the Y. I like the Y's here-but they are expensive! Weddington/Waxhaw seems to be the place to be but the area must assume all mothers stay at home. I wish that were the case, but it's not in my personal situation. If anyone knows of a good church that may pick up at Kensington or someplace else-PLEASE post it. Thanks a million!

Just a suggestion... maybe there is a stay at home mom in the neighborhood who would consider doing after school care. I guess it woudl be hard if you don't know anyone but it is worth a try. Good luck!

Default nanny

I would look into getting an afterschool nanny. I help out a family now and it the kids seem to like it way better then being in an after school program.

I know from friends this daycare is popular but also expensive. They have a waiting list. I'm sure it's great. Great location.

A day care center in the Cureton shopping center makes a lot of sense to me. It is centrally located to several schools and the other businesses there would seem to benefit. Just a thought.

I pulled up Marvin, NC on Google maps and searched for daycare. There are quite a few listings. This was just page 1. The higher page numbers are further out in distance from Marvin. Perhaps this will help provide a starting point for further research.

Have you thought about joining Union County Mommies(UCM)? It's all moms on the website and someone may be able to help you or refer you to something for after school care. I know of a few Lawson Moms that are members. Good Luck.

There's a new daycare that just opened at Cox Rd and 84. (Chesterbrook Academy or something like that.)

Try the churches, most have daycare situations. I know the one on the corner of 84 and 16 has one.

Try the YMCA. I know they have a bus that picks students up at Rea View Elementary.
