Rush Hour Drive Time-Pineville to Huntersville?
Ok, my husband has it in his head that, even though his office is on the south side of the city just east on Pinesville, he wants to look at homes anywhere within a 30 mi radius of the office, including Huntersville.
Does anyone make the drive from Pineville to Huntersville during rush hour? How long does it take?

Since the distance between the two is approximately 27 miles, parts of Huntersville would bit the bill. However, keeping that commute under 45 minutes will be tough - unless you travel at 3 a.m. perhaps. You have better options on the south side of Charlotte.

without traffic about 30 minutes. With traffic (ie: during Rush hour) about 45-55 minutes.
Whats your price range? What is attacting you to Huntersville?

Normal rush hour could easily take 45 mins to 1 hour. Add the the occasional accident you will be looking at at 1 1/2 hr. Maybe if you tweek the time you drive by 30 or 45 minutes from true rush hour you can shave off 10 minutes from a normal commute. I think even if they cleared all the cars off the road for you and you kept your speed to within 10 MPH over the speed limit (in other words arrived safely) you are still looking at 25 - 30 minutes. Not my idea of a reasonable commute for Charlotte. Other cities it is completely normal but people here expect to use their time differently. Once again you are right, break the news gently to you husband.

My husband's idea... not mine. I don't see the point in driving through the city to get home when your office is already outside of the city. I only spent about 10 minutes looking at homes there and I don't find the high schools acceptable.
Although I have to admit I am surprised the drive time is only in the range of 55 minutes with traffic....Personally, I'm going back to looking at homes in Matthews, Waxhaw, Tega Cay.... any other suggestions (looking up to $500K)?

gkleoni... 25 minutes sound GREAT to us. We lived in So Cal for 2 years, where it took my husband 45 minutes to drive 15 miles during rush hour (and that wasn't even LA traffic.) And now here in Ohio, he drives 45 minutes - 1 hr, not because of traffic so much as because we live 35 miles from his office. 45 minutes in good weather, 1 hr+ during winter weather.

I am a huge fan of Southpark which should only be 10-15 minutes from Pineville during rush hour (taking Park Rd. or South Blvd).
Southpark is one of the most upscale parts of Charlotte with great shopping and restaurants. But it may be a little more 'urban' than what you are looking for. Its certainly in your price range (especially now).

Also try neighborhoods off of Carmel Rd. which will be inbetween Southpark and Pineville.
Ballantyne area is also very nice and this is south of Pineville so further away from the city.

You should check out the Waxhaw/Marvin area. Homes in developments such as Hunter Oaks, Summerset, Reserve will be in your price range and Marvin Ridge High School is excellent.

I agree about Hunter Oaks, her money would go REAL far there right now, and for me personally, this is one of THE best neighborhoods when you want to be in Union County but have a great commute to Charlotte. This is because it's barely in Union County and right on the edge of all the great retail in Blakeney and Ballantyne.
