So I went this am to deal with my 9mph over speed limit ticket. They reduced it to 5. You can only pay cash or money order and its going to be almost $175 +/-. So they told me I need to reschedule due to the fact I didn't have the money on me. Does anyone know if I can just go down to the courthouse Monday and pay or do I need to wait for my rescheduled court date? I have the money but didn't have the cash on me. TIA

We must have a vastly different fee schedule than SC. I got a ticket for 9 over in SC and it was only $75 total...no negotiation. If yours was reduced to 5 over and was still $175, something sounds funny.

Just FYI, by NC law, 9mph or less gets you nothing more than a fine and one or two insignificant points on your license. No insurance points (meaning your insurance company can not raise your rate). Not sure why you'd fight to have it dropped to 5 from 9 unless you already had points on your license and couldn't afford the 1 or 2 new ones pushing you over the top (and come on Himain! you've only been here for a year or so! you better not have that many points already!!!).

She thought she was on I-95 in Miami-Dade (where almost everyone drives 80 plus)......right Tia!

Sorry you got a ticket though Tia.

80? What speedometer are you reading down there? Try 95+. I always said, if I were a FL state trooper, I'd use the admittedly corny joke of "that's the interstate sign, son, not the speed limit."

Mettal-No points at all. Most people I spoke with told me to go to court as they would just dismiss it as it was 9mph over. They only dropped it to 5. I want to pay and make it go away but didn't have the cash that day and have it now. In Miami, you can go down to the courthouse and pay anyday. Is it possible here??

LOL 7Oh4..That's for sure!!!

I'd make the trip down anyway. It's not like it's hard to find parking around there and you'd pretty much be in and out.

Now that being said, when I served on a jury over there the only day I saw a mob scene was that Friday, the traffic court day. They may have it set up to accept payments on certain days.

Edited to say you're probably good to go any day.

Payments can be made in person at the Cabarrus County Courthouse, 77 Union Street, Concord, Office of the Clerk of Superior Court, Room 104 (red sign over door), Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Cash, money order, or cashier's check are the ONLY acceptable forms of payment. No credit cards are accepted. There is a cash machine in the courthouse.

Isnt it nice that they make paying your fines so convenient?! A cash machine in the courthouse! Probably charges $3 a transaction too- dirty dogs!
