As I typed that it brought back some very fond memories. (serious now). At the tender age of 18 I spent a year of my life at Fort Bragg. I was in the Military Police and part of our duties were to travel the state of N.C. with our honor guard to attend the funeral services of deceased service men.

Invariably, we were invited back to the house of the deceased family before our trip back to Fort Bragg. It was during one of these occasions I was introduced to that stuff at about 150 proof and better. One of the wusps in the platoon mentioned that you could "go blind drinking that stuff".
I replied yep, along with that other thing your Mama said you could go blind doing it when you do it too much.

Oh to be 18 again!
john

lcosolito is on a distinguished road
I am new to this forum and have been navigating around a little. I am considering relocating to Charlotte, NC. I currently am living in New York. I have twins that are six years old, my daughter has special needs. Both my husband and I work two jobs up in New York. We are overworked and do not have the quality of life with our family that we should. We work and work just to make ends meet in NY. However, we do not reap the benefits. We live in very small quarters and it is overcrowded. Although, I was raised in NY, I am looking forward to trying to give my kids the best quality of life possible. We have every intention on giving back to the community where we live. I am hoping that someone can give us some advice, information, etc.,

We need more info before we can offer any advice...

What kind of jobs would you need for instance??

Part of the problem when you get here is you won't "work and work ". Not sure if that's what you want but I'll wait for you to respond to Loves.

Before you make the decision to come to Charlotte . . . several things you need to research.

1. Jobs - we are third in the nation right now w/ high unemployment, so it is not a good time to relocate here unless you already have a job lined up or you are starting a business. It won't be like this forever, tho (at least, we certainly hope not!)

2. Special needs child - you need to carefully research what types of services and resources are here - as compared to NY - b/f you come. I have noticed that a lot of people have said that NC does not provide the level of services and resources for special needs children that some other states do.

3. Although property is cheaper, the overall cost of living is not cheaper. Now, if you are in Buffalo, for example, cost of heating would be reduced cause we don't have as brutal a winter. But you will need A/C in the summer.

Those are just a few things that you will need to consider and compare b/f you decide to move here. Hope that helps some!

LOVE those mason jars! My favorite has a little peach taste to it! Those mountain folk sure do make a mighty fine drink!

If we are talking about shine or everclear, I have always just stuck a peppermint stick in it and let it desolve to make it a little more bearable. Lets face it, it ain't really that tasty anyway. I keep a couple of mason jars full in my freezer. When my son or friends come up we use it. It is a pleasnat change from my past buzz boosters, sambuka, tiquila, and other things that now make me gag. To be honest, I am now on my forth vodka and cran. I am keeping on subject, right? My wife shout be ready to go soon. Man, that heat sure makes that buzz come quickly. Excuse me, I need to fix another drink, my glass is empty.
