Default Possibly relocating to NC.

My family and I are considering relocating to NC within the next year or 2. I know absolutely nothing about any region of the state, as my husband and I have lived in Southeast Tennessee our entire lives. We LOVE the mountains and countryside but we like the convenience of having a descent size city within an hour+/- drive. We have 2 small children under age 5 so a good school system is very important to us. Also, we would like an area that has a modest cost of living and friendly residents. And of course a place that has a good job market is very important, as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The Charlotte area has one of the strongest economies in the nation. Sunny, 4-season climate, lots of recreational assets, friendly people, close to beaches and mtns., and affordable.

Some suburban areas you might want to look at with good schools, good freeway access to Charlotte, safe, close to recreation, and affordable: Concord and Harrisburg (NE of Charlotte), Belmont (west), and Ft. Mill (south).

If you want a more rual atmosphere but still be in the metro: Mt. Pleasant (NE), Cherryville (west), and Clover (SW). Good luck!!

Thank goodness you are not from Long Island.
