and the houses looked nice, I asked the lady first thing, if you build more house for less money, how well can the quality be? She showed me the awards on the walls, told me there were only 2% I don't know neg input or whatever where other builders had up to 65 %. I went into the models with my dh, and they looked really nice, but something was eating at the back of my mind. We got home at about midnight and I did a search. Dh could not believe I was on the pc after that drive... LOL I did a search and there was that HUGE thread fr dpierce. I knew I had remembered something. Well, we were out in the BOONIES out there. I dont even know where I was. It was Monroe near Weddington or something, off of 84? I don't know. BFE. I loved it! No hustle. No bustle. Beautiful scenery. I would love to find a subdivision that has homes built in the 80s or 90s out there. We saw one... Weddington Ridge. Of course we need to stay in our range. But it was perfect. It was a neighborhood, but you weren't on top of eachother. Yards were huge. But still, I could see the neighbors getting together and the kids playing together. This is exactly what we want. EXACTLY. If anyone knows of something like this in the area, UNION , please let me know, we are ranging aroung 150k, give/take, and I did talk to a new mortgage person on fri... I never thought I would want to live out in no mans land, but it was perfect. It was perfect. It could not have been any more perfect. Now, we also saw a cute little area called Hearthstone. I liked the houses and yard sizes there. Roads called Rocking chair Rd, quilting rd, stuff like that, it was more towards the 'city' and we were also ok with that. Those houses seemed nice, the style, the yard sizes, etc. OMGoodness I have to leave for work in 15 and haven't placed foot in the shower... cya! Love your area

I just closed on my house this weekend and my neighborhood is the one a little further down the road across from the school at the end of the block(Lexington Commons). My wife instantly fell in love with the area. The two neighborhoods are set way back from 84 so it's nice and quiet and far enough were the kids won't be curious enough to go out that far. On a Saturday afternoon it is silent but Keep in mind you will here the freight train running a few times a day and night, but I think it adds to the charm of the area. Others may not agree but we like it. What's also nice is it's very rural in that area but your only less than 10 minutes from 74 and about 5 minutes from downtown Monroe and about 10-15 minutes from downtown Waxhaw. We just spent all weekend there and I did not want to leave yesterday. My wife is lucky and is off all week so she is staying at the house and her sister and husband will be down Tues and will be staying with her as they have there pre-drywall inspection this week. I can't wait to go back next weekend. I love it and am always misreable to come back to NY. I'm counting down the days until we pack it all up and move into our new home for good. Good luck with your search.

Thanks to all of you!!! Looking at the models they looked nice, even my dh thought so, but something was looming.... and it was that huge post... I have found alot of listings in Union for resales...1990s houses, which dh and I like, although alot of them have master up, and dh does not want that at all. I think I could do it...lol his knees are bad. But so many of the houses are 2 stories. Too bad we couldn't tough it out for ten yrs and then buy again, smaller.

One thing to consider with master up is a chair stair lift costs about $2000.

So it may be something to consider if you find a really nice two storey

Maybe I could do that later... but I am only 33 now... but that would be a cool ride I could see the kids...and the cats now....but they wouldn't be able to get it to go fast enough to be any fun for them... hmm... Dh is still back here wanting the master on the main, wants to retire out of whatever home we buy. I have found some decent master on mains...I did find this one ranch in a search I did. The search was only to include UNION and it came up as a Charlotte address. Does anyone know if any Union addresses come up as Charlotte????

There are lots of ranches around here. We're in one that we love. Funny, and I've said it before but there's a lot to be said for putting everything on one floor. Mind you, moving into a ranch was not our original intention and at first I think DH was bit disappointed. However, neither of us miss the disagreements about whose going to get the laundry from the basement!

Robyn, what site do you use to do your searches? Give allentate.com and carolinahome.com a try if you're not using either of those.

I know you really liked the area and I have no idea what the asking price is but last weekend when the wife and I were driving down 75 heading to Waxhaw from Monroe, there was a really really nice ranch with a realtor sign out front. When I head back this weekend, if I end passing it again I will try and jot down some of the info for you so you and your husband can look into it.
