Light/heavy rail service
It was great to see that things are looking up for rail service. I am biased and really want it to come up north first. Looks as if we use heavy rail, we can have it up and running within two years. How great will it be to take the rail into town, barhop and take the last rail north and call a taxi or walk home. Sweet!! Like living in London again on a very, very, small scale.

Folks need to speak up with their support for the rail. There are rumors simmering that the north line has been put on hold in order to accelerate the street car project...while the Blue Line Extension (northeast out to University City) is proceeding with the help of federal dollars.
In other words, if you want to see the north line happen sooner than later, let your officials know.

I have spoken up. I believe that the real problem is the allocation of funds from which there aren't enough. The latest I heard on the news was the the UNCC line and the Moresville lines will be worked at the same time. I guess we just sit back and wait. I didn't hear about the street car project stalling the north line. What can I say, I read the Observer. I am willing to get out and march on this one.

Unless I'm mistaken, the North Line will be really limited to rush hour service because it will be sharing with freight. So, I doubt barhopping is in the picture, unless you want to do it between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

What is a streetcar? While I'm asking what is a trolley system anyway? I hear these terms all the time concerning Charlotte traffic and I am not sure what the real difference is. I really hope this project goes forward. I have been living/connected to the UC area since '97. If what happens to the Southend happens in UC, it will truly shape UC into one of the more premier areas of Charlotte, a mini-city.

Myself and several others here hope they focus on the University line first and leave us alone up here in Iredell.

Call me an optimist if you will, but we'll be lucky to see the first shovel of dirt turned in 2 years, let alone be riding a train.
And, as you said, they "can" have it up and running in 2 years. I seem to recall something about 485 being finished by a certain date.
Don't go setting up guys/girls night out just yet.

Oh, I HATE to burst your bubble, but Charlotte doesn't finish ANYTHING in two years.

Thanks for destroying my dreams. I suppose that I will have to start drinking when the bars open before lunch. But, it's better than nothing.

Besides houses, condos and skyscrapers. Of course red tape and planning takes five years before.
