I'm a first time gardener. I have a very small area to work with - flower bed along one side of my house. I want to do some veggies and herbs, maybe berries too, whatever fits in the space.

Would you recommend a raised bed? I'm just concerned about the amount of clay that may be there. I'll find out tomorrow when I start tilling that area. If I don't do a raised bed then I'll have to till in some fertilizer and gardening soil either way.
How does everyone else do it here?
