Default Photo Galleries by the Natives

If any of you do Facebook, there is a group that you really MUST visit for the pictures: Group Name: "I Am A Native Charlottean"

I am absolutely taking a stroll down memory lane looking at all of the photos, menus, newspaper ads, TV personalities, etc. I don't know the person who started this group, but for me it was like reliving my college days. Lots of stuff from the 1960's, 1970's and even earlier.

Also, if you are at all interested in Waxhaw, there is another Facebook group called "Waxhaw Natives." Less photos here, but certainly gives you a sense of who the natives are and the flavor of the town fathers.

No better way to get to know this place and where it has been than to be a fly on the wall in one of these "native" groups.

Which ones are yours? Aren't those amazing pieces of memorabilia?

I think it speaks to me because I went to college in downtown Charlotte (Kings College), and lived in apartments all around town during those years. My first real jobs were in downtown and enjoyed shopping at Charlotte Town Mall, before I moved way out to Central and Albemarle area when Eastland Mall was the hottest place to be for the college set in the 1980's. After I got married, I moved over by SouthPark and worked there. So many memories of all these areas. It just warms my heart to get in a group of natives and share memories.

MN - I can't believe it! Clicked in on photos . . . and there is a 1932 photo of a goat wagon. My mother likes to tell the story of how a GOAT WAGON came by their house the day she got married! It was such a curiosity! I cannot wait to show her this photo, as she said it always stuck in her mind as such an odd thing to happen on her wedding day, LOL!!!

Ani, I have spent the whole afternoon going through those pages, just laughing and smiling and dying for someone else to look at them with me who would appreciate them as much as I do. Gotta go ice down my "mouse" hand now. What a fun afternoon.

P.S. I don't know who posted these photos, but they are obviously connected in Charlotte (either writers/photographers, etc.) to have access to some of the stuff they've included.

Oh, yes . . . I have sifted through every page of those photos! Joey the Clown! Arthur Smith and Fred Kirby! And all the restaurants. I had forgotten about so many of them. But that Goat Wagon - we have never seen an actual photo of those things!!! Unbelievable!!!
