Mount Holly
Hello! The information I have to share comes from my husband, who just visited the Charlotte area. We were primarily looking at South Charlotte/Matthews/Tega Cay/Fort Mill area, when a future co-worker raved about Mount Holly. The biggest plus he found was the housing, much better priced than South Charlotte and the Lake Norman/Concord area. The commute is also better than some of the other suburbs, seems your going against the traffic on your way in and out of Charlotte (depending on your route, I guess). I've spoken to several people about the area, and their only concern is the overall small town feel, smaller than some of the newer burbs. Hope you get a reply from a local who can give you first-hand knowledge!

Thanks for your reply. No doubt housing is cheaper and my wife works in uptown. We are currently renting in Matthews and her ride is 45 painful minutes every day. I'm not sure if the commute is in fact less, but the rides we have taken indicate it. I am not at all concerned with the small town concept in the least. In fact South Charlotte is almost too crowded. Thanks again

I agree. It's a nice little town that's convenient to about anywhere. The small town feel and reasonable growth rate would be a big plus for me, not a downside.

It just seems that South Charlotte has gotten to congested already. Don't get me wrong, its a great place to live and is no way city-ish. But coming from Southern Connecticut/NY, I was trying to get away from the packs of people. Take a ride on 74 at any time or worse, down by the mall on 51...its no picnic. Hopefully Mt. Holly or Belmont will not grow at this rate. I do worry that Mt. Holly is too rural, but like I said, i don't think that is a bad problem.

Does anyone know of a community pool in the Belmont / mount Holly area? Even membership doesn't have to be free. and I am aware of the YMCA
Thanks in advance

Just beware that there hasn't been a lot of growth in Mt. Holly. I've reported this before and, at the risk of someone getting on my case about it, I will again. But the fact is there is a KKK chapter that's headquartered in Mt. Holly and has been since the '80s. As this is a very small town, I think it's important for you to know who some of your neighbors might be.

Thanks for the info! Well, we think Mt. Holly is just more reserved. Frankly growth is good, BUT ...we did not like south Charlotte because of the rapid growth, the traffic down there is miserable
