But this isnít a bad thing. Apparently Johnny Harris and the rest of the clubís organizers are looking to get Charlotte in the rotation for PGA Championship and Ryder Cup events. That would be huge if they can pull that off.

I still wonder if this will happen. I have a feeling in 2011 or something they will change their mind and find a corporate sponsor to keep it going.

Personally speaking, it would be a bad thing - going to Quail Hollow once in a blue moon isn't as good as going every year. That would be akin to losing the Carolina Panthers in return for getting awarded the Super Bowl.

And that's not taking into account the financial loss.......sorry, but I don't see that side of the argument stacking-up.

I agree with Megax. I think they should keep it a yearly thing.

I think that 2014 is when the Wells/Wachovia sponsorship expires.

yes, S5, 2014 is when the sponsorship expires, but they should look for a new sponsor. Having grown up in Muirfield (Ohio), I am used to having a golf event once a year. It was great when we moved from the beach to Charlotte and could attend a wonderful tournament locally again. I enjoy the tournament, and would be disappointed not to have the chance to attend each year.

All I'm going to say is as it stands, this is not a good thing. Having a yearly tournament is good for the local economy.

However 2014 is a long time away and anything can happen....at this time last year no one would've dreamed Wachovia wouldn't be the sponsor...
