Of course, if you're young & in any part of Jersey (or ever were) nothing says Friday night like

YouTube - Springsteen Spirit In The Night Philly 4/29 Spectrum

That includes you Ani (in the song they're all piled into a car.)

You can never see a better Springsteen show than a Philly show. However G'boro is Bruce's stranglehold in the southeast.

STOKED STOKED STOKED for tonight!!!!

Brian, Ed Sciaky was playing Springsteen on reel to reel tape (on WMMR) before the first album, Greetings from Asbury Park, came out. Springsteen is totally ingrained in the metro area.

Now, in South Jersey this one said Saturday night, year round, or any night in the summer.

YouTube - Bruce Springsteen & Jackson Browne - Racing In The Street

I tried to find an old Tower theater performance, but no luck. Thought this version was appropriate, since Ed Sciaky played Bruce & Jackson on reel to reel tapes in the same time period. (Also has Danny on keyboards.)

Have a great time! I know you will.

I love these vids!!! Y'all are great!

BTW - I DID HANG OUT IN ASBURY PARK! Sho' nuff!!!! Asbury Park in 1970 was a whole world unto itself. Saltwater taffy . . . what was that place? We would always have to buy boxes to bring back "South." And the carousels . . .

There were clubs there (all over) in the 60s and I wish I could say I heard The Boss back when . . . but I was too young to venture into the clubs . . . so that is a part of history that may have been going on right under my nose, but I just knew nothing of it.

I like to think I came "that close" . . .

Hey, Ani, been listening to Bruce since at least 1973. Philly was a different kind of market. WMMR played all of the great southern rock, Californis rock (Eagles, Jackson Browne...) & the Jersey shore rock & local Philly rock. I'll check tonight & if I find a few, post them in the chat thread. Tried to keep these appropriate to your thread.

Honestly, I've never been to the Jersey shore north of Surf City, on Long Beach Island. As posted in a different thread, people from South Jersey just don't venture to the North Jersey beaches.

It has been so much fun putting some memories in context. No one has ever cared about my time in NJ (or Philly, for that matter) until things about those areas have come up on this forum! I would get back home and be all stoked about my time "up North" and no one gave a flit and in fact, resented my discussing it. Now I realize that is b/c the other kids were probably envious about my traveling to places they had only read about, LOL! Back then, tho, it just got put downs so I learned to "forget about it" Hee Hee!!!

I know Brian is going to have a rockin' good time . . . the music is still just as sweet - and in some ways, sweeter - than it was at the time. It is amazing how you grow up and music becomes entwined into the fabric of your life (and your memories) - and hearing a particular song can take you back to a moment in space and time that is long gone - but feels like yesterday.

Ani, I love that you spent that time in Philly. Even though I wasn't a native, it was a great place to be a teenager. It's truly MidAltantic & has that identity too.

Gotta go get at that yardwork. have a great day!

Brian, let your Jersey out in Greensboro. Like Philly, there's that Quaker base there.
