The OP & her husband are trying to find a compromise location. You & I both suggested Spartanburg. Instead of saying, "Hey we both came up with Spartanburg, independently.", you told me how inappropriate Kings Mountain & Cherryville were as suggestions. I them explained why I suggested them (because I know that the school systems are decent & the other reasons that I stated in that thread. This was done politely & patiently by me, after you posted a smart-a$$ response to my suggestion that those 2 towns are within range to go shopping in Hickory as well as South Charlotte without it being a major production.
You also posted that I am living in a rural community. I beg to differ with you on that. Kings Mountain was rural but is in transition to suburban, with clearly suburban housing developments interspersed with what was here. Shopping has clearly lagged here. I stated it just as I am now.
When someone posts something that isn't right about Charlotte you jump right in & correct them. I would defend you doing that to anyone. Your statement about Kings Mountain being rural promoted an image of the area & housing that was not right. Between the city & township the population exceeds Cherryville & Gaffney combined, neither of which seemed to bother you as much as Kings Mountain.
Supermarkets are amenities & I don't feel that I was out of line to point out that one of the best supoermarkets west of Charlotte is in Kings Mountain. I was visiting in Gastonia today & the person I was visiting mentioned that she just loves the Kings Mountain Ingles & drives there to do some of her shopping.
As I said in the other thread, on this particular issue, I think that Comfort Food is the authority because of where he & his family live. His vote is for Spartanburg as the best compromise location.
You have accused me of being defensive & hypersensitive. I was trying to correct what you wrote that I felt was not correct. I live here. I don't think that what I wrote was defensive or hypersensitive, any more than I think that you are being defensive or hypersensitive when you correct people about Charlotte.

This is getting tiresome and a bit disappointing...Again you act like I said something to malign Kings Mountain and for the life of me I cannot figure out where you got that? For about the 4th time now I will say, I really like Kings Mountain!
However, for something to be "suburban" it needs to be within reasonable distance to the urban. So I guess if Gastonia is seen as urban, Kings Mountain could be called suburban
There is nothing wrong with a place being more rural - I LOVE RURAL, I LOVE Kings Mountain. If I offended you by calling it rural I sincerely apologize, but honestly it was not meant in a derogatory way at all. I will henceforth remember that those of you there prefer to be thought of as "suburbanites".
All of this is a moot point because the OP wants a much larger city - once I realized that I knew even Spartanburg wasn't going to work for her and pointed her in the direction of Greenville - the ONE place to meet all her needs as she described them.
I am wondering if ComfortFood is laughing over the notion that he's the expert and some authority on "that area" since he himself is a relative newcomer, though a well informed one that's for sure.
