New roof for my car
My little BMW convertible is in dire need of a new roof. I don't really want to spend $3000 at BMW for it (it's an '99 but in good nick otherwise) so I wondered if anyone could recommend another place. TIA

I recommend you buy a replacement top from Bavarian Autosport, they are really easy to install yourself, but if you are not up to it I can recommend a couple of shops that will do it for you.
http://www.bavauto.com/shop.asp
The top from them is under $600

+1 on Bav Auto.
I have ordered stuff from them for years.
Good service, reasonable prices.

I bought a replacement top for an old girlfriend for her Miata about 8 or 9 years ago. I just googled what I needed and called a few of them to find out which one best suited my needs in terms of quality and cost. The top was designed as a replacement by some engineer out of California who manufactured them and sold them. I installed it myself with a friend in about 4 hours... no problem. It was right around $600 for the new top, so the Bav. auto place price sounds fair to me.
If you decide to install yourself, make sure you have the tools you need before tearing down the old one. I had to pick up a pop-riveter for the Miata job...

I wouldn't even attempt to install it myself and neither would my husband - we aren't mechanically inclined LOL But that site is a great site and I had thought that I would need to replace the tension straps and according to the site it is recommended so that of course is another reason not to do it myself.
