Default Any Beekeepers here who can tell me what these are in my front yard?

We discovered this smack dab in the middle of our front yard yesterday when hubby almost ran over them with the mower. I would love to know if these are ground bees or honey bees and how to help them move on to somewhere else. If anyone could help I would appreciate it
I belive they are "Mating" and may be some type of Ground bee, but they sure look like honey Bees to me

The "Swarm" is about the size of a large dinner plate

It's a swarm... essentially its a hive's way of reproduction. They look like common honey bees. No problem. They'll move on soon.

Thanks I thought they looked like honey bees but a lady at the NC extension told me from my desription and since they were just out in the middle of the yard and not around a tree or a stump that they were probably some type of ground bee. We don't want to harm them just kind of would like them to move along if you know what I mean

Are they still hanging out there? I would call a beekeeper to move them. Bees are dying and it is causing a problem w/ pollination - beekeepers want native bees, from what I have been told - b/c of the genetic problems w/ bees (causing them to die).

The Meck Beekeeper's Association WANTS YOU TO CALL THEM. The bees will likely move into your garage, under an eave, into a tree - someplace to colonize.

Please contact the association - they will WANT to move the bees for you and you will doubtless find someone who will do it no charge, especially since this is not a huge swarm.

Swarm removal

Get the bees some help - and get them out of your way!!!

My grandfather used to be a beekeeper. They are fascinating creatures, but not in your garage - or inside the walls of your house!!!

GOOD LUCK!!! I bet someone will come out right away and sweep those bees up!

ETA: I have never seen honeybees on the ground like that. So I started reading online and the way other bees are described - these do look like honeybees. But I can't find out an answer as to whether or not honeybees will nest underground.

Please let us know what you find out.

Actually that was a concern for me. (Saving the honeybees that is) I did just call Mr. Ross who is close by from the swarm list and he is coming out to take a look and hopefully take them with him
