Charlotte breaks into top 10 list for metro areas that added the most people in '06

The Charlotte region ranked No. 7 on the list of metro areas that added the most people in 2006, according to statistics released today by the U.S. Census Bureau.

By adding more than 61,500 people to its six-county region between 2005 and 2006, Charlotte broke into the top 10 gainers in year-over-year population numbers. The prior year, Charlotte ranked No. 12.

DUKE1989 is on a distinguished road
You don't suppose all this growth would have anything to immigrants as teh article below states. I wonder what the percentage of growth in Charlotte is illegals. Now everyone probably understands why Bank of America is handing out credit cards to this group.

Census: Immigration helps big metros grow

Funny thing about the Charlotte.com article is it speaks mostly about Donald Trump and as many stated in another recent thread his impact here will not likely have any positive effects, but maybe we can get a local Trump sitcom.

I think they were talking about actual hard numbers instead of % of increase in relation to the area's popualtions. All of those metros ranked ahead of Charlotte on that list (exept Las Vegas) are much larger than Charlotte's metro area. So if you did a rate of increase, Charlotte could possibley be 2nd on the list, depending on the hard numbers of the other metros.

If you'll notice, the top two areas are Houston and Dallas. Though they are fast growing areas in their own right, I would more than likely atribute a lot of that growth to Katrina victims moving to those areas.

No, that is not the case at all with regards to the Charlotte area. From a recent article in USA Today…

The flight from expensive Northeastern metro areas also is fueling phenomenal growth in Sun Belt states such as North Carolina, where the economy is strong.

Mecklenburg County, home of booming financial center and NASCAR capital Charlotte, grew on all fronts: total population up 3.9% in one year to 827,445; net gains from other counties of 18,126 people, up 22.3%; net jump in immigrants of 5.6%, or more than 4,500 people.
