Question Moving to 1420 Magnolia in Southpark

Hi everyone, I just put a deposit on an apartment for my mom & I @ 1420 Magnolia. We are planning on moving there from South Florida & signing a lease on June 1st. I'm just having second thoughts now that maybe it might not be the place to live. I've been reading online that it's somewhat unsafe & that they've had several car break-ins & thefts. I'm wondering if I should just forfeit my $200 deposit & find someplace else, or just sign an 8 month lease & hope for the best. If anyone out there knows anything about this place or has any advice on the subject I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!!

I don't think you'll have any problems there, jendew7. If memory serves, this is a gated community so at least there is controlled access. I know that just because somewhere is gated it doesn't mean that they are immune to crime - however IMO the gates can be a deterrent. I do think you'll like the location - it is convenient to the Park Road Shopping Center, which has a variety of shops and restaurants (grocery store, post office, movie theaters, cafes, a book store, etc.). Just take normal precautions (i.e., don't leave your valuables visible in your car, and lock the car doors) and I think you and your mom will be fine.

That area is nice and as safe as any other part of Charlotte. I would not worry about it.
